I alerted all coaches that the all-county tennis teams have been posted to MIPrepZone and that they will be running in Thursday's Oakland Press (see oversized thumbnail to the right).
Please pick up a copy of the paper at a newsstand near you. Though we have moved a lot of our content to MIPrepZone.com, we still rely on people purchasing our papers from time to time. And as is the case with all of our all-county teams, you get a chance to see all of the players photos (we cannot run them all online).
Once again, it was both easy and difficult selecting the all-county teams. It's always easy to find tennis talent in Oakland County. Just look at the players. I would put this team up against the rest of the state. And it would be a blowout. The singles lineup in particular, this year, is as strong as I've seen it in years. And all but one of them will be back next season.
The difficult part is trying to decipher the talent. Who belongs where. There are state champions on the honorable-mention list. There are numerous all-league players who did not even make the team. Because of the competition some schools face, some girls fly under the radar. Playing out of the OAA Red, it's easy to find good players with sub-.500 records.
Still, it's a real thrill to cover high school tennis in Oakland County. Each fall, and spring, I have the privilege of seeing some of the state's finest squaring off against each other. I thank all of you for reading all my stories and passing them along. I plan to continue doing what I do. And I'm hoping you continue reading everything.
I'm hoping to keep up with some off-season (USTA) action this summer when possible. So check back here often. Take care and have a great summer.
