Why change that gorgeous wood flooring?!

Much better, but I would love to see a cream wall to bring out the white molding!

were those real wood, wide plank floors? did they cover them with fake wood?

I thought the original floors had been sanded/cleaned! Yikes, was I mistaken? It's a gorgeous room either way!

Why did you change the small window? It looks like you cut out a larger one -- the one that was above the TV in the before shot.

The floors were in extremely rough shape, mostly due to holes left from numerous ducts coming from the basement furnace after I changed from oil to electric heat. The original planks are still under there if i decide to go back, but we are talking major work, effort, and $. Maybe some day.
The rugs are just what I had on hand at the time. The larger one didn't have enough contrast, and the smaller one was too small on its own, so I used them both just for the time being. Thx for the positive feedback, much appreciated.

I like the light walls and furniture, need a little color in room. Try some drapes on either side of window, I loves pastel blues. Add some cushions with color too! Maybe a different table cloth.

The windows on that wall and the opposing wall were all smaller and different sizes. I replaced them all with larger ones to take in the ocean views.

Thx Valerie, I'm considering roll up rattan blinds just to punch it up a little bit. The table cloth is covering a table that desperately needs to be refinished. ;-)

Beautiful view for sure, just some panels on either side, not to full. Rattan is nice too! Try some paint and get some be achy theme maybe??? I lve to paint with Country chic paint. Easy as pie, and it makes old furniture look shabby chic.....I have it in Florida.

You could try stenciling the larger rug and using the smaller one elsewhere..... I like http://www.cuttingedgestencils.com/, (as they provide tutorials) but there dozens of other places that also sell stencils....

I would recommend roman shades (or even roller shades) over bamboo or matchstick blinds, as they provide better light control, they come in room darkening or light filtering, you can buy them plain at home improvement centers at reasonably prices and stencil them as well (if you want.)

If I were to alter any one thing it would be larger artwork. I like the windows bare nakid. The neutral natural palette is perfect. I wouldn't start adding gobs of color or you'll end up back where you were. Although your old rug...wouldn't look bad at all.

It's an improvement but it's a little dull. How about some colourful art or throws just for some life?

What a beautiful change -- so light and airy! Love it! How about a bigger lamp and window treatments? Shutters would be lovely.

By keeping it light and airy, it doesn't compete with the view. I guess it all comes down to personal style.

Looks better of course but could use a pop of color.

Really nice!! I agree about a pop of colour. My personal taste would call for a red throw blanket or red cushions and colour in the table cloth.

By the sea, blues all the way! I thought of white shutters too, maybe down the road! They are a bit expensive as I'm wanting them too! Nice work there for sure!!!! Go with what you like!

Also, before i renovated, as you can see in first pic, i mistakenly thought that adding more accesories would camouflage the much needed renos. Haha. Boy was i wrong. I guess that's why i now veer towards 'less is more'.
  • Valerie Turnell
Less is better, but add a little black some where too, "simple framed photo " not too small!
Have fun! I'm still working on my place in Florida, it does take time but worth it!

I don't mind the two carpets, it adds a pop of colour.
I also like at least a small contrast between the wall colour and trim.
Wood shutters (if you don't mind cleaning them) would add texture and still allow the windows to be opened fully to see the beautiful view.

Nice, but there is something charming about the homey, rustic look before. And yes, a little more color needed somewhere in the after. I very much like the new furniture. Perhaps a few more leafy plants and a bright fruit bowl would enhance the look.

I have used BM Horizon in small spaces but it's not enough for this room....they should use a richer grey with more depth...not dark but a bit deeper. Lose the rug on rug ...colorful artwork would be great and some wood roll up blinds......love the lamp!! Well done...
  • murphydp

Yes, thought about going one chip darker on the BM horizon card. But first ill try putting up roll up wood blinds, i think that will make a big difference, and a few pops of color with some artwork shd clinch it.
  • kailuaaloha
Be careful there though as Horizon has a lot of blue undertones and if you want more of a grey...check out this link..see bathroom.... http://www.traditionalhome.com/design/beautiful-homes/charming-east-hampton-cottage?page=9
Also, BM Stonington Grey is a good one...but once you are done with the blinds, as you say, it might be perfect....lucky you to have this cute house!!!
