Husband who faked his own kidnapping on Facebook to swindle his wife Sh42, 000 faces 5 years in jail

Unemployed builder Eliot Garrido Guido, 36, from Mexico City hatched his plan when he no longer could stand the fact his banker wife Constanza was earning more than him since he lost his job three months earlier.

Pal Martinez Reyes, 42, tied Garrido up in a derelict house and then took photos of him with a bag over his head tied up on a stool.

The pair then uploaded the images to Garrido’s Facebook telling his wife he was being held over 900 miles away in the seaside resort of Playa del Carmen.

Stunned Constanza, 34, said: “When I saw the message and the photos I couldn’t believe what was happening.

“The kidnappers had demanded 7,000 Pesos and said my husband was being tortured.

“They said they would kill him if I didn’t pay up.

“I was seriously worried but when I contacted them they said I should leave the money at an address in Mexico City.

“I asked them why I should do that if they were in Playa del Carmen, and they just said do it.

“But it didn’t make sense so I contacted the police.”

When police arrived and examined the message they quickly discovered it had been sent from nearby.

A police spokesman said: “We found them in a house about 300 metres away.

“They both confessed and were arrested on the spot.”

The men now face five years in jail.
