BROOKLYN (PIX11) – Can’t fit all your things in your apartment? You might want to try putting your closet in the cloud. Start-up MakeSpace is trying to make sure you never have to visit a storage unit ever again. Sam Rosen started the company after helping a girlfriend pack up her apartment following Superstorm Sandy. After filling a storage unit the couple couldn’t remember where they had put all of their items.
Rosen asked, “What if my physical things could be stored on the internet just like my virtual things?”
Enter MakeSpace: your closet in the cloud. Just like cloud computing where users can access their data remotely, MakeSpace allows customers to access their belongings any time with a photo inventory on their smart phone or computer.
Photographer Collin Hughes became a customer after he was frustrated by trying to find things in his storage unit after bouncing from apartment to apartment.
Hughes says MakeSpace makes getting his things back a seamless process.
“It’s all online and then all you have to do is select what you want back, select the time you want and they will bring it back, just give them 24 hours.”
Pricing starts at $25 a month for four bins, but customers can add over sized items like bikes or skis or additional bins.
The bins are moved thorough distribution centers before they’re stored in New Jersey where they’re inventoried by a professional photographer.
Pick up is free. Deliveries are $29 each.
