Keeping it cool: solving military electronics thermal management challenges
On-demand webcast: Aired live:

Expert Speaker: Gerry Janicki, Senior Director, Meggitt Defense Systems
Radar, electronic warfare, unmanned aircraft, combat aircraft avionics, etc. all demand high-performance signal processing to meet capability requirements. However, while faster processors and FPGAs create unprecedented performance they also generate excessive amounts of heat. Aspects such as ambient temperature, altitude, power density and power dissipation have to be evaluated early in the design process. This presentation focuses on the principle techniques for thermal management, their relative efficiencies, and examples of real world solutions. Some rules of thumb will also be presented that can be used by the non-expert for estimating maximum system temperatures under various conditions. This webcast with speakers Gerry Janicki of Meggitt Defense Systems and David O’Mara of Kontron will discuss these challenges and more.
