Panthers to Host Texas State on Senior Day

ATLANTA – The Georgia State women's soccer team will host Texas State at the GSU Soccer Complex in the Panthers' regular-season finale. Prior to the 1 p.m. kickoff GSU will honor five seniors for their commitment and dedication to the women's soccer program.

  • GSU is 5-9-4 overall and 3-4-1 in the Sun Belt.
  • The Panthers currently sit sixth in the Sun Belt standings with 10 points.
  • Georgia State has already qualified for the conference tournament and will be either the fifth, sixth of seventh seed depending on Sunday's result.
  • Only the top eight teams in the conference standings qualify for the Sun Belt Tournament.
  • Whitney Ravan is second in the Sun Belt with 13 points on six goals and one assist in conference matches only.

How We Got Here…

On Friday, Oct. 24, Georgia State was defeated by Appalachian State 2-1 at the GSU Soccer Complex. After a scoreless first half, the teams combined to score three goals in 15 minutes but the Panthers came up short on the scoreboard. The Mountaineers jumped in front 1-0 in the 46th minute before doubling their lead in the 60th minute. However, the 2-0 lead was short lived as Ravan scored her eighth goal of the season 13 seconds later to pull the Panthers within one. The Panthers did not have a shot on target over the final 30 minutes and Appalachian State secured the 2-1 win.

Last weekend, Georgia State was defeated by Sun Belt leaders South Alabama 1-0 in Mobile, Ala. on Sunday, Oct. 19.  The Jaguars held a 22-5 shot advantage and Panther goalkeeper Christa Fox finished with 10 saves. On Friday, Oct. 17, Georgia State suffered another 1-0 loss, this time at the hands of Troy. The Panthers and Trojans played a scoreless first half and it was Troy who scored in the 61st minute following a scramble inside the 18-yard box.

Georgia State's next match is senior day on Sunday, Oct. 26 at the GSU Soccer Complex. The Panthers host the Bobcats of Texas State and kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Live stats for the match can be found here.

The Bobcats are currently second in the Sun Belt standings with 16 points. Texas State is 10-5-2 overall and boasts a 5-2-1 record in conference play. Texas State visited third-place Georgia Southern on Friday, Oct. 24. The Bobcats and Eagles battled to a 1-1 double-overtime draw in Statesboro, Ga. Georgia Southern jumped in front 1-0 in the 15th minute. Texas State equalized in the 45th minute and neither team was able to score in the second half or overtime. Last weekend, the Bobcats picked up a 2-1 win over UL Lafayette on Oct. 19 after falling to UL Monroe 2-1 on Oct. 17.

  • Texas State is unbeaten on the road this season with a 4-0-2 record.
  • The Panthers and Bobcats have met just once before which was last season.
  • Texas State earned the 1-0 win in San Marcos, Texas on Oct. 4 thanks to an 89th minute match-winner.
  • The Bobcats are led by Lynsey Curry who has a team high 15 points. She is first with six goals and tied for first with three assists.
  • Tori Hale is second on the team with 13 points. She has scored five goals and is tied with Curry for first in assists (3).

Tournament Time…

  • The Sun Belt Conference Championship starts on Wednesday, Nov. 5 in Mobile, Ala.
  • The first round will feature four quarterfinal match-ups. The No. 1 seed faces No. 8, No. 2 plays No. 7, No. 3 battles No. 6 and No. 4 challenges No. 5.
  • The four winners advance to play again on Friday, Nov. 7 in the Semifinals.
  • South Alabama is the defending tournament champions and this year's host.
