What would happen if Pikachu, Cloud, Diablo and the Grim Reaper went to bed together? Your guess is as good as mine, but I'd say it's pretty damn close to Soul Reaper: Unreap Commander.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“That's an easy one!

It's mostly about content creation. You see, we're aiming to have 80+ monsters and 200+ loot, and drawing and animating all that takes time. Now, having 80+ monsters sounds arbitrary, doesn't it?

I assure you it isn't! We want every monster to be unique. And by that, I don't just mean visually and stats-wise, but I mean that it's useful in some situations, but may be less optimal in others. Plus, with 80+ monsters, there are many unique ways to work out synergies between other monsters and leads to more interesting team builds.

As for the loot, we want to have enough variety for each step of your progress. Plus, we want at least 1/5 of them to be unique/legendary, meaning it has at least one unique attribute that makes it so it can make or break a team build.

In its current state, Soul Reaper: Unreap Commander has all the core features you should expect to make it complete and at least a little fun. Especially for those, like us, who just love constantly getting stronger and stronger and reaching further with every fight!

But it's not without its share of bugs, which we intend to fix through very frequent patches. We're known for publishing updates every week or two.

The game balancing is very much lacking too. The progression could be smoother, and the monster and loot balancing is off in many areas.

But hey, this is us being transparent about the development, which we intend to be at all steps of the process. Your feedback will greatly influence the direction the game will take.

We hope you'll have an enjoyable ride with us here at Power Level Studios and you'll enjoy Soul Reaper: Unreap Commander as much as we enjoyed making it!

See you in the netherworlds! (or wherever the Soul Reaper is hanging out right now...)”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The content is being produced for both versions of Soul Reaper at the same time. The other Soul Reaper game, Rise of the Unreaps, is scheduled to launch Q2 or Q3 of next year, but we're hoping the content will be done by Q1 2019, at which point we're hoping that all the bugs from Unreap Commander will be ironed out and ready to ship with its full content.

So in short: Around Q1 2019.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In terms of features, it really shouldn't change that much, but that will depend on your feedback. The game currently has all the features planned for the full release.

Otherwise, we currently have 66 monsters and 170 loot in the game. As you know, that's not our target. So expect about 14 more monsters and 30 more loot.

There will also be tons of new feats. We want you to always feel like you're progressing.

We're also looking into expanding the multiplayer features of the game based on your feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We mentioned it above. Here's a short version:

  • Full-feature for an initial launch
  • About 1/5 of the planned content
  • Tons of bugs
  • Tons of balance issues

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Price will not change when we leave early access. But! By taking part of our development journey, you'll have your say on how you want the game to shape up. It's like being an assistant-designer. Just without getting paid. Mwahaha!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Give us all the brutally honest feedback you can give us. We can take it.

Especially the Soul Reaper. He may be all bones, but these are really solid bones! Who knew souls were actually better than calcium for bones?

Seriously though, we're a passionate team who are eager to bring you an exciting game. And that starts with a collaboration between you and us.

So yeah, let's make this a reality together!”

About This Game

Soul Reaper

Soul Reaper is a Square Enix Collective alumni. Soul Reaper is a not-so-serious grim reaper in search of succulent souls. His journey is split into two different games: Unreap Commander and Rise of the Unreaps. Unreap Commander is an Online Strategy RPG for PC and Mac, drawing inspiration from classic JRPGs, Tower Defense games and Idle Clicker games. Rise of the Unreaps is a single-player exploration and story driven game for PC, Mac, and consoles.

Unreap Commander

Soul Reaper: Unreap Commander is an asynchronous multiplayer version of Soul Reaper, focusing on monster team building as well as Soul Reaper's signature fast turn-based combat, and loot and souls systems.

Assemble teams of Unreaps and train them against pre-defined challenges, or compete online against other players' teams and earn epic loot and souls!

Some games that Soul Reaper might remind you of are:

  • Pokemon: (Once you're hooked on soul-collecting, you'll wanna reap 'em all)
  • Diablo: (Loot with more stats than you can shake a '+50% stick-shaking' stick at)
  • Final Fantasy: (Side view turn-based combat)
  • Castlevania: Aria/Dawn of Sorrow (Kill monsters, get souls!)

Features

  • Turn-based classic RPG style combat. You hit me, I hit you, you hit me, I reap your soul. That sort of thing!
  • Collect every soul and explore all of the hidden powers within their Soul Gems.
  • Find treasure chests full of loot and gear with tons of useful (or bizarre) stat boosts. Wanna pair gloves that make you run faster with shoes that make you punch harder? Then open up those chests and start accessorizing!
