The Hyatt Regency Hong Kong Sha Tin is one of my favorite hotels in the world, it’s why I became a World of Hyatt loyalist

Location

The Hyatt Regency Hong Kong Sha Tin is located in the New Territories outside of Hong Kong proper. The MTR of Hong Kong runs directly to the hotel on the East Rail line at the “University” stop, named for the Chinese University of Hong Kong immediately adjacent to the hotel. On the MTR, the ride into Kowloon is approximately 30 minutes depending on the stop, roughly the same by car if you so choose.

It’s important to note that this hotel is at the edge of Hong Kong, but the reason why the location is so great is because of the mountains and harbor at its doorstep.

Property

A substantial tower occupying over 30 floors, the imposing Hyatt Regency Hong Kong Sha Tin’s crescent shape stands tall over the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The property offers significant conference room space, hundreds of guestrooms, and consistently hosts large weddings for Hong Kongers.

In addition to the executive lounge, fitness center, multiple restaurants, and bakery is a substantial outdoor complex including an Olympic sized pool.

Suite

Due to my World of Hyatt Globalist status, my family was upgraded to a suite. This suite was different than many others as it was a Family suite, offering two distinct bedrooms at opposite ends of suite with a central living room in between. On this visit, my family of three occupied one room, my brother and mother in the opposite room. They were identical rooms with the exception of the beds.

Living Room

A guest bathroom was available as soon as the suite was entered. To the left is a kitchenette with full-sized refrigerator, small hob, and full sink. The rest of the room included a dining room table for four, a large TV with DVD player, and large L-shaped couch.

Bedrooms

Each bedroom features a large working desk, a walk-in closet, huge bathroom suite and bay windows overlooking either the mountains or, in our case, the harbor.

The beds were very comfortable as my daughter exemplified – though she may have fallen victim to some jet lag. However, when she was awake, she enjoyed the expansiveness of the windows and just how close she felt to the water. Watching the fog roll in over the water is a serene way to start the day especially considering the madness of the city a few subway stops away.

The glass top desk and leather executive chair was a spectacular amount of space to work. One interesting added feature for guests is the “Handy” phone. Provided at no cost to every guestroom is a cellphone that can be taken to the city and used for phone calls or data which makes life easier for international visitors.

Bathroom

Glass from the bathroom allows guests to see the beautiful outdoor scenery from the tub if so desired. The bathroom utilizes two frosted glass doors, one for the water closet and the other for a large shower with wand and rain shower head.

World of Hyatt Service and Benefits

As a World of Hyatt Globalist, I enjoyed complimentary breakfast, afternoon canapes, lounge access, late checkout, bonus points, and an upgrade to a suite. The lounge (25th floor) has both indoor and outdoor space. It’s available to qualified guests throughout the day and most of the evening.

For breakfast, a buffet is offered with salad, charcuterie, cereals, breads and pastries as well as juice, coffee and teas. In the evening, hot and cold items are available on the buffet as well in addition to liquor and beer as well as soft drinks. Menu items are also available for both times of the day, including eggs benedict some mornings or scrambled eggs and bacon other days. Each day, local options are available too.

Value

The Hyatt Regency Hong Kong Sha Tin is a great value for money both for greater Hong Kong and what the hotel delivers. It’s an excellent value for most Americans and Europeans visiting. Average costs range between $120-140/nt. It’s a stellar cash value for the price.

For World of Hyatt members, the property is a Category 4 (which makes it eligible for World of Hyatt credit card certificates.) Award nights cost 12,000/nt for a standard room. This provides a value of 1¢ to 1.1¢/point, well below Suites and Lobbies valuation of 2¢/point. World of Hyatt members should spend cash for their stay. Globalists find even more value with added perks like breakfast.

What do you think? Have you stayed at the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong Sha Tin? How was your experience?
