Edit or remove captions

Edit captions

You can change the text and timestamps of your captions. You can also use caption editing software or services.

Remove captions

To stop captions from showing on your video, you can delete them completely from your video and Google Account.

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio.
  2. From the left menu, select Subtitles .
  3. For the language you’d like to delete, in the “Subtitles” column, select Options and then Delete .
  4. You’ll be asked to confirm that you want to delete the captions. Click Delete captions.
Note: Once the automatic captions are deleted for a video, you can't turn them back on. Even when you remove captions, they may still be used to give relevant video answers to your viewers. Viewers might see video answers when they’ve searched for the answer to a specific question. Answers are pulled from your captions or auto-generated transcript so viewers can quickly decide if your video is the right fit for them.
