What is National Board Certification?
National Board Certification (NBC) is the highest level of certification that can be achieved by teachers in the United States. National Board certification is a voluntary process. Teachers earn certification by completing a rigorous process involving self-reflection, classroom video analysis, and demonstration of student growth. Just under 3 percent of the nation's teachers are certified. At this time, about 2.5% of Boston's teachers are certified. By the end of the 2021-2022 school year, we aimed to significantly increase the number of certified teachers in our district's classrooms in order to impact student achievement and growth.
To that end, we had 92 new candidates and 19 Maintenance of Certification (MOC) candidates. At the end of school year we welcomed 7 new certified and 10 MOC's.
For 2022-2023 we welcome this exciting and challenging year as we recruit new candidates, support candidates in their 2nd and/or 3rd year of work, and as well as support MOC candidates.
