INSIDE THIS ISSUE
~ONENESS~
| How very unique and 'special' are the perceptions we color our world with. And how alienated we feel when those around us 'see' things differently. One of the solaces A Course in Miracles provides is in the quote presented above. Loving Minds are those which are One with God and not the 'loving minds' of the limited, illusory self where there is indeed separation.
In this Fall issue, the Course in Miracles Society [CIMS] eNewsletter begins with an article by Paul Marinkovich, which offers a glimpse into how the new men's group "The Miracle Cell" was formed by The Bucketmen. Our issue also includes a tender, soul-felt POEM by Paul called "Holy Divorce".
The MUSIC section is back with an introduction to the work of Mark Stanton Welch, a prolific musician, visionary, sound healer and vibrational alchemist.
Daniel Tipton ruminates on the idea of the "Spiritual Path As Sometimes Boring" in his DARE TO BE HAPPY series, relating the idea to his personal experience of boredom and resistance on his spiritual path.
The question this month in our Question and Answer section is: "Some Course students think of 'Atonement' as 'At Onement' and some disagree vehemently and say that "Atonement" does NOT in any way mean 'At Onement' but it is a PROCESS towards Oneness. What are your thoughts about this?" Robert [Bob] Sears responds thoughtfully and with Guidance.
In the section on GUIDANCE from ELDER BROTHER, Sun~Rose has listened specifically for Guidance regarding "Oneness", and shares what she has received, in this issue.
As a REMINDER, we have DAILY scribing by Sun~Rose of GUIDANCE from Elder Brother on each and every DAILY LESSON, appearing on our Web Site and mailed each day to Course students who have joined our mailing list. This year there are two Lesson Lists to choose from depending on which Leap Year schedule you are following.

The Bucketmen Birthing an ACIM Men's Movement Part I of II
By PAUL MARINKOVICH*
|
A beautiful woman or the sight of teams crashing together to move a pigskin a few yards towards a goal line might gain a man's attention, but a man's soul is intrigued by ancient and mystic stories. The sound of a distant drumbeat beckons us together into a circle as an ancient storyteller's voice breaks the silence of a cold dark night. His voice is deep and the story sings through the night in perfect cadence with the pounding of his bare hands against the well-worn Djembe drum. In this circle we are all right here, in the now, fully present and wholly alive in this very moment.
In one of our early Miracle Cell Men's Team meetings we were looking at a popular fable studied by past men's movements called "Iron John." This is a German fairy tale written by the Grimm Brothers in 1812 and was retold by Robert Bly in 1990 along with his analysis. It was through working with this story with an ACIM vision that the clouds started to part for us and the light shone through. The Holy Spirit created a space and worked through us to create our own version of a "Miracle Cell Fairytale." This seemed to be a guided vision that provided a means for the transition we were seeking and providing us a clear context as a men's team.
Such is a proper way to start an article about men and a men's movement, with a story, our story.
Bucketmen
Our ego has created a dark and mystical swamp deep within the forest of our souls that is rarely visited. We have heard all of the fearful stories told about the dangers of approaching such a place. But it is this place where the ego tries to hide our brilliance, our courage, and our light and we are drawn to it knowing that there must be something more. Love has been hidden deep beneath and the mucky waters filter out the brilliant beams of our light trying to shine forth. This swamp is our ego's attempt to separate us from God and although it is but an illusion, it has appeared to us to be a very effective means for separation. At this point in our lives we have made the decision to drain our swamps and clear the darkness covering the light hidden below so we grab a bucket and venture into the darkness of our forest to find it. When we reach the water's edge we see the vastness of the ego's illusion and we feel frustrated. The swamp is even bigger than the last time we visited and its limitless volume brings forth a feeling of fear and a perception that this is an impossible task. We have bailed at this swamp before only to just eventually give up. Perhaps it was the fear that the eventual darkness brought with the haunting howls from the shadow figures from our past. Perhaps it was the weariness of bailing the water alone, or even the isolation we felt trying to undertake such a seemingly impossible task by ourselves. But whatever it was, the swamp remained covering what we were so desperately seeking. Eventually days turned into years and years turned into decades but the swamp remained. As time passes we find ourselves once again bailing and discover that with age we are growing weary even sooner and becoming even more frustrated with our lack of progress. Surely it will take a thousand years of bailing with this bucket to reach what we seek. For a moment the muck separates and in the brief clearness of the water we see a reflection of our face looking back at us. We see a tired and scared man looking into our own soul and we experience a deep fear. We feel so very alone here with this bucket in our hands. We put our head down in defeat and we start back to the shallow little world that our ego has created for us. As we retreat from our quest we hear a splashing and the sounds of a man crying out in frustration. As we investigate we see another man with a bucket kneeled before another swamp with scares on his palms from his bailing of the swamp before him. At invitation, he joins us in our retreat from the forest when we come upon another man, and another, and another. We are tired and weary and we band together. We are the "Bucketmen." We circle up as we sit on our buckets and share with each other our truth and the stories of our lives. The night has fallen upon us so we light a fire in the middle of our circle to remind us of the light in each of us fueled by the dead wood of our past which is scattered throughout the forest. This is our flame born of our collective life experiences. In the flame we witness all the fear and loveless actions of our past burned to ash only leaving the love we gave and love we received to blaze a brilliant light before us.
To honor this process we each take turns giving to the flame our worries, our concerns, our sadness, and our sorrows. We express the feelings of our failures and where we didn't get it right. We let go of our past loveless actions and the loveless actions we experienced from others. We weep together and reach out to each other as a father to a son. We feel support. We then look into the flame and take from it the brilliant light and warmth as we describe all the expressions of love that we have given and received. The shadows of the light dance across the face of every man and the once dirty scorned faces suddenly come alive with heartfelt smiles as we celebrate our remembrance of who we are as brothers. We are experiencing real life in the moment and we are drawing strength through joining together. The flame grows brighter and suddenly the night sky seems almost a brilliant white. We look around and see other men with buckets who have been attracted by the light and we welcome them to join our circle. We look around and suddenly there are thousands of "Bucketmen" in a massive circle. The night is alive with dancing, singing, and men without cares celebrating together in a primitive and ancient way. This night the dark and scary forest has suddenly transformed into a place of healing, of light, of celebration, of connection, and of limitlessness love. As the morning light breaks we gather and meet at one of our swamps. Thousands of men with buckets start bailing the swamp and it quickly is drained. At the bottom we now can see a large hairy man lying there. We pull him out and gather around. He is covered with mud, silt, and hair. He looks to have been down there for a very long time. He looks ancient. We clean him with the tears we have cried for that is the only pure water available to us. We embrace him and we dance around him celebrating his liberation. As the dirt is washed away an aura of brilliance radiates from Him like great rays of light. We realize that through His liberation and remembering who we are that a miraculous space has been created that is only filled with love and nothing else.
Yesterday is gone and tomorrow is not yet here. There is only this moment and all the fear and despair we held for so very long has folded back in the nothingness from which it came. We have arrived. We are finally home. This is the real world we have been seeking. We can't get to where we are going without our "Bucketmen." We thank God for men with buckets. We thank God for the men of our Miracle Cell and the ones who will join us. We thank each man for helping us bucket. Together as brothers we will bucket out the swamps of this world and become better fathers, sons, brothers, lovers, teachers, and men. When the going gets tough we simply say "Bucket."

Holy Divorce
BY PAUL MARINKOVICH*
|
An official end to our relationship
an illusion our unhealed minds might see.
But although our bodies seem apart,
you still share relationship with me.
The courts, the fighting, the anger,
damming effects felt each day.
All our loving times and thoughts,
appear somehow hidden away.
Love's beautiful melody and prose
silenced by your wrong and my right
stands hidden behind our walls of stone
left unseen in its brilliant light.
I long to depart this battlefield
and ask God to lift me above
and realize now my forgiveness of you
is the only path to remember His love.
My once stone wall fortress
now but a veil covering your face
remembrance of a groom unveiling his bride
brings me back to a most miraculous space.
For by seeing only your innocence
I witness the face of Christ in you
and realize that all the love we shared
was all that was ever true.
As each massive stone falls
and our illusions crumble to dust
I see our minds together as one
for in forgiveness we have placed our trust.
A beautiful journey without distance
is what our connected minds share now
gently helping us to remember an ancient time
when we managed to get it right somehow.
I bless you my darling always
as our bodies travel a different way
our minds remain in a Holy Relationship
that can never be taken away.

Dare to Be Happy By Daniel Tipton*

The Spiritual Path is Boring Sometimes [or it seems so]
My spiritual path with ACIM and many other teachings has brought me peace, wisdom, and happiness. It has given me new purpose in life and it is the foundation of what motivates me to do almost anything I do anymore. It has given me a new overview of life that puts things in perspective to the point that I see that there really is order and meaning in all of this. However, sometimes I get bored.
This boredom is based on a weird nostalgia for my former, blind, pleasure-seeking life. What is enticing about this life was that I believed things like food, alcohol, sex, parties, and prestige would bring me happiness. I got those things once in a while and had moments of euphoria. In the ego-driven life, those moments of euphoria are life. It was a constant pursuit of one pleasure or one distraction after another. Somewhere in my mind I wondered why the moments did not last, but that would have taken me down the rabbit hole that I was not ready to fall down.
Now that I have the teachings of A Course in Miracles[ACIM], I know I can't go back to that place. I know better now. However, I still find that I like to pretend that I'm ignorant and that maybe "one more shot" down that path would be worth a try. I recently went through a four to sixth month phase with a little too much excess. I knew things were getting away from me so I sought the help of a counselor and we got things straightened back out.
What is hard about the spiritual life is that it is not marked by intense highs. My former life was marked by events and moments that I idolized as what brought me happiness. Things such as vacations, promotions, and parties were my focus. The down side to the focus on the external is that nothings lasts forever so the highs felt in those times were always followed by lows or depression. Eventually this roller coaster ride got old. I decided "there must be another way".
The "way" I have found is to harvest peace and happiness within myself. This path is not marked by extreme highs, but the benefit is that it doesn't have such extreme lows. It's as if God is taking the two ends of the roller coaster track and pulling it apart so that all of the dips and loops become less and less extreme. The eventual goal is aserene, flat path.
A flat path could seem boring (and sometimes it does) but in reality, it is the true path. "Highs" are replaced by a peaceful knowing. There are also different kinds of elevated experiences. They are the holy instants, miracles, revelations, or mystical experiences that give me glimpses into why I should stay disciplined in my study and practice.
The world is a place chock-full of sexy distractions and pleasures. It is easy for me to want to pretend for a while that they will take me somewhere other than eventual suffering. The problem is that I know better now and all that I'm doing is playing a losing game. It has come to the point that I teach myself lessons that I am already quite aware of. It isn't just about my learning lessons anymore, but about my simply me being foolish and having "vain imaginings".
I have a new focus and am excited about my path like never before. May I remember that trust is the most important attribute of a teacher of God. I must continue to trust that my path to God is the only path I need to be concerned about.
Blessings,
Daniel

Questions Regarding the Teachings of ACIM
By ROBERT [Bob] SEARS*
|
QUESTION: "Some Course students think of "Atonement" as "At Onement" and some disagree vehemently and say that "Atonement" does NOT in any way mean At Onement but it is a PROCESS towards Oneness. What are your thoughts about this?
ANSWER: Good question, and over the years I have heard it in many forms. I think it is important to recognize an important basic fact before we begin. OPINION IS ALWAYS OF THE EGO. Including mine. If you have ever heard the phrase, "In my humble opinion...", it is always coming from the ego, and the ego is surely not humble. In other words, the term "humble opinion" is an oxymoron. So let's get over our opinions! With that said, I will attempt to present a logical answer with information taken from the Course itself. My first thought was to do a "word - search" within the Course using the phrase "Atonement is". I was hoping to come up with a clear and logical definition. While a clear definition was not forthcoming, I did find many entries that shared many of the aspects and purpose of the Atonement. The search produced many hits, most of which were unresponsive to the question at hand, but indeed interesting and useful. If you want to read them all, they are included at the bottom of this article in my web site, but not in this narrative for the CIMS newsletter. After the exhaustive notations, I really should have started with these words from the introduction to the Clarification of Terms, a supplement not included in the Original Edition. (This link will take you to the complete Clarification of Terms posted on my web site.)
"This is not a course in philosophical speculation, nor is it concerned with precise terminology. It is concerned only with Atonement, or the correction of perception. The means of the Atonement is forgiveness."
So in the simplest terms, the atonement is the correction of perception. The Course also defines a Miracle as a change in perception. Does this mean that the miracle, forgiveness, and the atonement are the same in Reality? I believe it does. But this begs the question, "How do I change my perception?" The simple answer is that you can't. The best you can do on your own is to continue with the same kind of thinking that got you into the mess you are in already. The mind that created the mess is not the mind that can get you out of it. Your "wrong" mindedness, stinking thinking, call it whatever you wish, is what created the mess (the world as we know it) in the first place. The Holy Spirit, the Voice for God, your Inner Teacher, also known as your "right" mindedness is the solution. The ONLY solution. This is a gift...And it presents us with a dilemma. The world's answer to most problems is to 'do something', and sadly this is the advice we follow most of the time. We have become a species of "doers". Keep in mind we call ourselves Human Beings...not Human Doers. Yet the Course says "You need do nothing". Let me offer you an interesting analogy. To quit smoking, all you need do is quit smoking. In other words quitting smoking is to do nothing. Smoking requires action. Quitting does not. To put this analogy into context, to think with your "right" mind means doing nothing. Many Course workbook lessons point to the idea that what we think, is not thinking. "Only those thoughts I share with God are Real". Thinking with your "wrong" mind requires action on your part. Allowing the Holy Spirit to enter your "right" mind (having real thoughts) means doing nothing, unless you think getting out of the way is doing something. Further, the Course mentions little about being "at one" with anything other than the Mind of Christ, but speaks in many places of being ONE. So rather than try to re-define "the Atonement" (using precise terminology), we should really be participating in what appears to be a process...a process of allowing the Holy Spirit, by using the miracle, and gift, of forgiveness, to eradicate once and for all any memory of guilt which is the ONLY thing that keeps us in what appears to be a state of separation, from each other and our Father...the purpose of Atonement. As far as the idea of "at ONE-ment", it is a cute idea that appears to have begun early in the new thought or new age movement... maybe all the way back to the sixties. I really can't remember. What I remember at the time is that I thought of it as a bit clich. But as far as I could see, it did not come from the Course, nor did it speak to me at all of the atonement as outlined by the Course. Also, the Course meaning does not meet with religion's idea of atonement as "making up for" something either. That does not necessarily make the thought of "at one ment" wrong. That would be a judgment...something I am supposed be learning NOT to do...and at times rather poorly. The good news is that the Holy Spirit keeps us in touch with what I like to call "Holy Critics". People that keep us on our toes to be sure we are teaching truth and not opinion. I am lucky enough to have several of these. One was kind enough to bring the apparent judgment to my attention from the above paragraph. With her permission I am going to share some of her wisdom passed on to me in the preparation of this article. "What if a Child of God looks at their present experience and realizes that the 'correction of perception' [Atonement] uncovers the Oneness inherent in the One SonShip. They now look on the term of Atonement as the EXPERIENCE of At One-ment. It is now a description of Being and not a clich." After extracting all the Course quotes, I started to consider what "at one" meant, pun definitely intended...and it reminded me of this story. A Buddhist Monk walked...

Guidance from Elder BrotherAs Received and Transcribed by Sun~Rose

"Atonement ~ At-One-ness"
TRANSCRIBER'S NOTE: In His Guidance, He has asked Me to capitalize the pronouns You and We as an acknowledgement of the Divinity of All of Us, an acknowledgement of Equality, an expression of His Love and respect for You.
When You see the word 'YOU' capitalized in the Guidance, know that He is not just speaking to YOU, He is honoring YOU.
~*~
BROTHER. The question I hear You asking is whether the Atonement is a process of regaining Oneness with/as God, or it is the actual state of Oneness, which never has been lost, but only hidden, blocked by the ego's way of thinking. It's a terrific question to which I'm delighted to respond!
The answer is found in one statement by Paul of Bible times on the importance of the moment, what I have called the Holy Instant: "Now is the accepted time."
Now is the time for You to accept Your At-One-Ment. Not because it is being offered to You as a gift, but because it is what You are. You are One as God. We are One as God. We'll speak more on this.
As soon as something becomes a process and not Your practice - an expression of Your very Be-ing - the ego just becomes ecstatic, for it knows You'll be processing endlessly; keeping it around.
For the ego claims that the separation's real. It isn't. And when something never happened to rupture Your relationship with God, then You need not do something to repair it. What do You need to do? - is not the question. You just need to BE.
In order to Be, yield Be-ing to the Holy Spirit for S/He is truly You. Let the Holy Spirit BE You, for S/He will gladly walk as You and talk as You and BE You, for S/He already is You! For S/He is Your Right Mind and so are You. Just a shift of consciousness is needed.
You can most happily shift from the ego to the Holy Spirit, from the impostor to Who You really are. It takes willingness and self-discipline, and it is more than worth it! What stands waiting for You is the shift from 'time' to the eternal Holy Instant; from misery to peace and happiness.
Join with Me - Your Elder Brother - and I will help You do it. Together We will join and let the Holy Spirit Be Us. S/He already is! For just as Holy Spirit walks as Me and talks as Me, so does S/He do for You.
You're so very Loved!
