EDITORIAL INTERNSHIP

Foreign Affairs is looking for an Academic Year Intern to join our editorial team.

The Academic Year Internship is a full-time paid position in New York City offering exceptional training in serious journalism. The intern works as an assistant editor with substantial responsibility. Previous interns have included recent graduates from undergraduate and master’s programs. Candidates should have a serious interest in international relations, a flair for writing, and a facility with the English language.

The position lasts for one year, starting in late spring or early summer.

STAFF OR ASSOCIATE EDITOR

Foreign Affairs is looking for a Staff or Associate Editor (title and salary based on experience) to join our editorial team. This is a full-time position based in New York.

Founded in 1922, Foreign Affairs is the preeminent publication on international affairs and U.S. foreign policy. It is published by the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), which is a leading independent, nonprofit membership organization and nonpartisan center dedicated to producing and disseminating foreign policy ideas. Foreign Affairs publishes groundbreaking articles and insightful commentary on global politics, diplomacy, and economics from expert authors.

The new editor will serve as a general article editor working on both print and Web stories. The job will involve editing text, generating story ideas, and assisting with administrative roles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years professional editorial experience working (ideally) with both print and web
  • Familiarity with online and print journalism
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • An academic background in International Relations or a related field (BA minimum; MA preferred)
  • A strong understanding of and a passion for foreign policy and international affairs
  • The ability to work efficiently on multiple tasks on deadline, to interact well with the entire staff, and to work flexible hours on request
  • Strong computer and web skills
