2021 NATIONAL CONTEST WILL BE VIRTUAL

Dear Teachers, Friends, and Supporters of National History Day®,

The National History Day 2021 National Contest will be virtual. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, safety measures in place across the country and at the University of Maryland, and several unknown variables at play between now and June 2021, I have made this decision to ensure the safety and success of our students, their families, and all of you.

Students who advance from the affiliate level to the National Contest will submit their projects virtually to be judged online. To an even greater extent than what we achieved this past June, NHD will work together with our affiliates and partners to provide a wide array of beyond-the-contest programming opportunities to deliver the enriching experience participants enjoy at the National Contest every single year.

More information will be provided in our forthcoming monthly newsletters, on our website, and on NHD social media. For regional and affiliate-specific information, please contact your affiliate coordinators. Contact information for all of our affiliates is available here.

In a year that many of us might like to forget, I will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the 2021 National History Day National Contest will shine as a treasured memory. Between my colleagues and me here in the national office, your local, regional, and affiliate coordinators, and the dedicated network of support staff and volunteers who work each year to make National History Day happen, I know our collective efforts to carry out the 2021 National Contest virtually will be a positive, empowering, and impactful experience for our students.

Sincerely,

Cathy Gorn, PhD

Executive Director
