The Niche Movement: The New Rules for Finding a Career You Love is a book that will serve as a platform to help people in their career exploration in an age of limitless social connection. Too often, college graduates and young professionals either assume their dream job doesn't exist or their resume is not good enough to land it. This book will show them that is simply not the case. On the contrary, the problem lies within the conventional approach to career development. The jobs new graduates might love may be with organizations not represented at college career fairs, posted on online job boards, or out of reach. Their resumes may be great, but in today's digital world, your online presence is paramount. Many new graduates need help crafting and developing their digital reputation. The book curates personal stories from author and entrepreneur Kevin OConnell, outline the new rules to finding the career you love, and includes advice from experts and influencers from around the world who chose not to take the conventional approach. Leading up to the release, the book has garnered press from Buzzfeed, Common Sense Millennial and Money Under 30.

Review

Through The Niche Movement I was able to focus my passions and interests into career goals. Kevin truly goes out of his way to connect you with resources that matter for your future. Whether you know exactly what you want to do with your life or not I recommend reading The Niche Movement to anyone who has passion and drive for excellence. --Veronica Frias Vivaldi

The Niche Movement [helped make] me aware of the importance of networking and social media in our day and age. This was a truth I did not want to accept but realized its significance. As a Media Studies graduate student this is something I must put into practice every day. The Niche Movement and Kevin were very helpful in making me realize that this is a day to day process. --Lucas Dalakian

This book is filled with incredible stories! My favorite chapter was "Digital Tools Have Changed The Game" because it gave some great examples of how people are using social media to find jobs or create their own. Kevin did a great job of blending real stories with helpful tips and some facts and stats to pull it all together. I would recommend this for all grads as well as anyone contemplating a career change.

"One of the critical roadblocks facing those that are trying to find their niche is that they don't know which challenges or goals to pursue. They feel lost, and they're overwhelmed with the many possible choices."

I backed Kevin on Kickstarter a year ago when he had the goal of self-publishing a book with The Niche Movement--a courageous start to his dream of ending employment unhappiness.

The book is easy-to-read and honest. It encourages you to start thinking about your future after university, but without the feelings of stress and anxiousness that typically accommodate the words from your career counselor.

There are no rules that say that you have to love your job, but I hear that the people who do, live more fulfilling lives! ;) And I personally feel that this book asks the perfect questions that will help you discover the right path(s) for you. So if you get the chance, read it and start having some conversations with the people who support you. Good luck in finding your niche. I'm still on the way to mine! :)

Unhappy with your job? Hesitant about switching career paths? Worried about what’ll happen after graduation? Enter: The Niche Movement. This book is an undeniable must-read for anyone who’s dealing with any of these questions. As a college student who’s not sure about what career path to go into, and frankly a little scared to venture out into the “real world”, I’m certain that this book will help guide me through the often confusing, and at times, terrifying, process of finding a job I truly love. Kevin offers fantastic bits of advice throughout its pages about taking advantage of digital tools, surrounding yourself with driven people, and being able to take risks. It’s safe to say that I gained plenty of inspiration to take with me wherever I go, through his own personal stories and others’ examples.

Simply stated, this book is great. It excellently captures the frustrations many (myself included) feel with the status quo of job searching and workplace culture and gives some fantastic insights as to how to control your own destiny and do work that is fulfilling, whatever that may mean for you. Kevin weaves his career advice with unique stories of people from all over the country working in all sorts of fields that help send home and support his points. To top it off, he sets you up for success by giving out contact info for everyone mentioned in the book, so if you want to keep the discussion going with someone who really intrigued you, you have the means to do so and are even encouraged to reach out.

If you aren’t happy with your career path, this book is a must-read. We live in a digital age where it’s easier than ever to find – and create – the opportunities you are looking for. The stories and lessons within lay out the new rules to finding the career path you absolutely love. We have so many opportunities and chances right in front of us, but many of us have no clue how to see them, nevertheless take advantage of them. What Kevin has done with this book boils down to helping you see your dreams more clearly, changing your perspective on how to find your career opportunities, and how to seize the day and grab hold of what's in front of you.

It is so EASY to get stuck in a mediocre job because its routine, convenient, etc. Kevin challenges your thinking as a living, breathing example of someone who took a leap of faith and came out on top. As a colleague and friend of Kevin's, watching him go through this journey has been so inspiring. I think this book exemplifies that with a little heart and a lot of hustle, it is very possible and very realistic to create your niche and get paid to do something that you love. I am excited for anyone who feels like they are stuck in a professional rut to get inspired by this book and build the courage to do something about it!
