Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is evidence of light wear and handling along the edges including some light but visible handling marks along the edges with pinpoint areas of loss at the upper and lower left corners and a small loss to the panel at the left corner of the figure’s arm that is only viewable when examined from the side. There are two horizontal pencil marks in the center of the figure. Under very close inspection and raking light, some light, clear drip accretions are visible. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, some areas fluoresce lightly and appear to be the result of the artist's repainting the work in 1968 as written on the reverse. There does not appear to be any evidence of restoration. Unframed.

Catalogue Note

"[Wesselmann's] brilliant, sensual style and concentration on erotic subject matter, so shocking a few years ago, already have taken on a remarkably 'classic' look. Certainly he has done much to reinstate the nude as a subject for serious modern art. And his lush...forms, infused with Pop literalism, have helped establish a uniquely American way of painting that is at once formal, figurative and plain fun." "Tom Wesselmann: Pleasure Painter," Avant Garde, November 1968
