The exceptional cast is headed by star tenor Jonathan Tetelman (“His Cavaradossi is as languid and heroic as you could wish for” – BBC Music Magazine) and soprano Eleonora Buratto (“the Tosca of our dreams” - Giornale della musica) as ill-fated lovers as well as French baritone Ludovic Tézier as the intimidating police chief Scarpia (“His Scarpia is still a bully, but there’s sinister charm and ironic humour here too” – Bachtrack). Daniel Harding makes his debut as music director of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, bringing Puccini's music to life in all of its facets. Every vocal shade, every orchestral nuance is revealed with exceptional clarity. The story is set entirely in Napoleonic-era Rome, “the Roman opera par excellence” as Harding states. Tetelman adds, “All I ever wanted to do was sing Cavaradossi, here in Rome, with this wonderful orchestra”. The new audio recording of the complete opera commemorates both the 125th anniversary of the opera’s premiere in Rome as well as the recent centenary of the death of Puccini (29 November, 2024).
