Three gunmen rob group home in East Greenwich Township

EAST GREENWICH TWP. — Three gunmen forced their way into a group home for disabled people on Whiskey Mill Road in Clarksboro early Thursday.

There were four employees on duty at about 3 a.m. when the incident occurred. Most, if not all, of the 10 residents were asleep, police said.

An employee who took out some trash was approached at the rear of the house by a man with a handgun and, as they went back into the house, the other two robbers joined them, said police.

The four employees were bound with duct tape and the three robbers went through the house — although they did not enter any of the residents’ rooms, police said.

It’s believed the robbers may have been after safes in which the personal belongings and cash of the residents are kept, said police. Most of the residents work and their families also give them money, police said.

The gunmen’s faces were covered and they wore gloves, said police.

The employees are being interviewed by police.

There are no suspects, said police.
