By: Lucian Duma Creative Commons License: CC BY-NC-ND Author contact: @web20education

I launch CRED project after my web 2.0 project was finalist, runner up in Elearning Awards 2010 http://bitly.com/web20projectfinalistinElearningAwards. I launch web 2.0 project after I was coordinator in the module proposed by me called How teachers and students can use free web 2.0 and social media in education and all the resources were posted on TeachToday website and presented in 22nd October 2010 at Safer Internet Forum in Luxembourg organised by the European Schoolnet and European Comission. Curation Restart Education Project was launch because I discover last year that is a new King in the online world and this is Curation, King of Knowledge in Social Media and the Art of : searching, selecting, sharing/bookmarking , tagging, organizing, interaction, communication. Steve Rosenbaum described in his book Curation: (p 3-4) Curation is about adding value from humans Curation is very much the core shift in commerce, editorial, and communities that require highly qualified humans. Humans arent extra, or special, or enhancements; humans arecurators. They do what no computer can possibly achieve. (p 12-13) No longer is the algorithm in charge. Human curators have become essential software. What emerges is new human and computer collaboration The important news of the emergence of a Curation Nation is that humans are very much back in charge. The Internet Curators role is to seek on the web information related to a specific domain, filter them, select them, organize, share and present them in a unique way. Now, if you have done any of that work before, you should know that doing so has many benefits, but is also very time consuming. I mean, you can always scour your friends blogs, do a search, visit news sites or other trusted sources available to you. But then, there is the matter of putting them all together, by copying and pasting, editing, among other things. In essence, you choose a topic, research for the best articles out there, combine them into a post, publish, and share it to the world. Thats curating content! In XXI Century Society where informatics and science developed spectacular and the use of new technologies arent regarded like a avangardist movement new tools and apps Web 2.0 and social media can bring a new dimension and can reform education around the world because electronic communication helps teachers and students to learn from each other. These new tehnologies can stimulate discussion, open gateway through knowledge, promote creativity and innovation for effective learning. Teacher and also students should have an entitlement to safe internet access at all times. Pulling Piaget and Papert , the use of participatory media tools in education is typically geared towards, creating a more student centered, adaptive environnement where learners can contribute to the course material, formulate and express their own insights and opinion, construct their own understanding of material by connecting concepts, to personal experience or current events, and learn from one another in collaborative environments . Web 2.0, social media and other digital and information tehnologies are powerful and interesting tools, which open up new opportunities for everyone and for this reason teachers and students must know how to use it nowadays in a safety mode. I try to make a platform for romanian teachers to implement CRED project, but for this I need founds . For this reason I apply in national competition Restart in Educatie with other 82 projects http://www.restartedu.ro/project/ proiectul-cred-%E2%80%9C-curation- restarteaz%C4%83-educa%C5%A3ia and unfortunatelly was only on 27 place after public vote and only top 20 went further in the competition see http:// bitly.com/top20projects . But I hope in the close future to find people who want to support, Curation Restart Education project who will open gateway to knowledge for romanian teachers and who was launch from passion of use of new free online techonologies , tools and apps web 2.0 and social media who can be successfully integrated in the classroom. Although Im now working on a new book, Curation Restart Education Project and top 100 social

media curation tools who will change research in XXI Century Education I will present here my top 10 curation tools in 2011, although now in 2012 I discover many startup curation like bo.lt or pinterest who open gateway to knowledge for teachers worldwide. 1. Scoop.it is my favorite social media curation tool because easily you can express your passion with a gorgeous magazine and be heard . Scoop.it is topic-centric, but we cant forget that its first of all a social media The main difference with the others social media is essential: Scoop.it lets users follow topics, not people. Scoop.it brings you content on topics youve decided to follow, shared by other people on these topics. People we meet are users who are willing to discuss about the same subjects. What gather people together are their passions! We dont always share our passions with our friends: especially if they are unusual. In short, with Scoop.it you share content with people who are likely to find it relevant. Scoop.it enables to share things you would not normally share on other social Medias. Sometimes you find that its too risky to share links with your family, your colleagues or old classmates. They will also not necessarily be very interested in your passions. And above all, the information that you will find relevant, will not be lost in the middle of thousand other posts. And if you are a little bit curious (we are all), you will read the content on topics curated by other users who share the same interest, and you will comment their links. I curate on scoop.it here http://www.scoop.it/u/web20education and today I have 70 000 visitors on my topics . 2. Themeefy is a cool new way to discover, curate, compile and publish knowledge to create your personal Theme magazine or online book . You must follow next steps to make a Themeefy mag . Research web sites and add interesting links directly from the Web. Upload photos, jot down notes and add a personal touch to your magazine. Pull in interesting social content from Twitter and Facebook. Customize the Theme magazine, publish it and share it . My first Online book is Curation Social Media King You can read more here http://www.themeefy.com/Lucian_26369/ 3. Chirpstory is an application to help manage your Twitter account and share Tweets in a fun and information fashion. A complete curation experience you wont find anywhere else.Chirpstory automatically loads the latest Tweets from your Twitter stream. You can also load Tweets from a specific user, keyword, or list and Organize favorite Tweets, conversations, and themed hashtags together to create fun and easy-to- read narratives out of the Twitter experience. Simply drag and drop Tweets into a timeline, edit, and then share your Story with the world. Here I made my Chirpstory and in this story I will write my favorite curation edtools in #education20 . http://chirpstory. com/li/1603 4. SymbalooEdu a great resource for teachers. With Symbaloo you can: Gather the best content on the web about 1 topic, and present it on a webmix Share a webmix with other teachers, and students Discover useful webmixes in the Symbaloo Gallery to use in the classroom Share a webmix with parents to provide some insight of the used materials A worthy mention: Symbaloo is free of charge and doesnt include any annoying ads. My first symbalooedu http://edu.symbaloo.com/mix/web2-0-with-lucian 5. Bootlenose Is a smarter way to surf the Stream. Its a new personalization tool that helps the important information find you in social networks like Twitter and Facebook. Use Bottlenose to track your interests, visualize trends, and curate knowledge with your friends. The Sharepocalypse is here to stay. Social networks are popping up left and right, and theyre getting noisier. How do you cut

through all this chaos? How do you make sense of your streams? At Bottlenose they were building a new social assistance application that helps you do just that. It helps navigate the depths of your networks and keep up with your social streams so you can engage more intelligently. But thats just the beginning: Bottlenose helps you hunt for what interests you, alerts you when something deserves your attention, and even helps you share and communicate more productively. 6. Scrible does for research what gmail did for email and I want to present you new scribles changing how the world works online by transforming Web-based research but I hope will be free for education Even though the world uses the Internet to research nearly everything for work, school and home (job postings, press releases, Wikipedia articles, medical info, etc.), most folks still use old-school ways of annotating, organizing and sharing online info (printing to mark by hand, copying/ pasting into Word, etc.). Its archaic, laborious and a waste of time. Scrible change that bringing Webbased research into the Internet Era by empowering people to mark up web pages in the browser and manage and collaborate on them online. 7. Pearltrees is one of my favorite social media curation tools . to cultivate my interests. Pearltrees is a place to organize discover and share everything you like on the web. For any topic, you can create a bag to collect, publish, and share any content from the Web. Beyond most curation tools capability, BagTheWeb enables users to build networks of bags. Via bags, users can collect, publish, and share curated Web content in a simple and exciting way. Web content forms content networks, users form social networks, and content and social networks further connect. This way bags can be linked together to provide rich and complete information about any topic. BagTheWeb offers a novel web linking platform where ordinary users will be able to make web links for collecting, saving, and sharing web content.
