here we go again, trying to be Amazon instead of being unique. LOL eBay better learn to butter up to the USA reseller because their China days are numbered. Could not happen to a nicer unAmerican group.

I would be fine with increased windows if it were limited to certain categories, and used clothing should not be one of them. Spilt coffee? Return to seller. Made a hole in your jeans? Return to seller. All at my cost.  The problem is that you already have to go through hoops when getting a return for INAD escalated if the item has been altered (example shrinking in the wash).


I'm not bashing eBay but the smaller seller cannot "compete with Amazon" and much of eBay is still that. It's the same thing with free shipping that is pushed. How can one even price an item for free shipping when the postage differential across the country is 12 dollars on an item that should ship for a total of 30 dollars.  They have lost touch with their niche unfortunately.

All returns should be made within seven days of receipt, period. After that a sale must be considered to be final. That is just simple common sense and ebay needs to understand that.

No way am I offering 90 days.  So glad I only have about a year or so till my stock is sold and then after 18 years it is adios Feebay.

eBay has already shot itself in one foot. They are about to shoot the other. They want to be more like Amazon? They should use caution. Sellers will simply just go to the real mccoy and sell there. Not saying Amazon doesn't have it's headaches. But what venue will sellers eventually want to sell on? - a wannabe Amazon site like eBay or the real thing? eBay used to be it's own real thing. Not any more.

I sell, books.  Does this mean a buyer can read my books, then return them after they are done?   Give me a break!! eBay is out of touch!

The decision for me is not 30 or 90 days, its stay or leave eBay.

There is no way I will ever offer a 90 window for returns.  If someone cannot make a decision within 30 days there is seriously something wrong with their decision making.  No way to free returns.  I sell intimate apparel and accessories and I would just turn into a dressing room for buyers...buy three sizes to see which one fits,return the others, etc.  Not only just getting items returned but the work involved in that.  It seems to me ebay encourages returns.  Wake up ebay!!!!

Two things to note.
1. There's a big, big difference between Amazon and eBay here. Amazon can do it because they require the manufacturerseller to take those returns back, and foot the bill. Buyer returns a broken item? Who cares, it goes back to the manufacturer, let him mess with it. In other words, it's very easy to be generous when it's someone else's money, and that's why Amazon has done it.
2. The condition of the returned item declines as the length of time for the return increases. If someone doesn't like the color, if it doesn't fit, etc - they know that quite quickly, and should be able to return it quickly. 3 months? That means more buyers will use an item, beat it to heck, lose parts of it, and returning something almost indistinguishable from what they bought.

NO way I will offer a 90 day return. I sell jewelry and CDs/vinyl records. Sorry but buyers should know within 1 day if my products work for them.

Curiously, does this mean if a buyer gets a $1 item from China they don't want, the Chinese dealer will pay the $13 to ship it back? That could be interesting...

I have never lost my TRS status in the last 8 years but if they force me to do 90 days I will surrender it with glee! I currently offer 30 days and think that is very fair. If someone came to me after that and I feel they have extenuating circumstances I would allow a return but I get very few returns as of now 1% . But just by offering 90 days you may attract a different buyer. A renter and a scammer. No thanks.

And Amazon is 60 days not 90 except anything bought from Nov 1 can be returned by Jan 31.

Doesn't really matter. Anyone with half a brain knows that if you sell on ebay YOU WILL ACCEPT RETURNS. Time limit doesn't matter. YOU WILL ACCEPT RETURNS.

Don't know why so many keep hanging in there with ebay. Just a note: On eCRATER it is the seller that sets their return policy, NOT eCRATER. For the most part sellers are left to run their business how they would like. Not enough traffic you say? If we had a couple hundred good ebay sellers come to eCRATER and set up decent stores with good product, fair prices, quick shipping, etc. and actively promoted their store and eCRATER, then I think traffic would certainly pick up! From $700-800/month in ebay fees, here on eCRATER my highest monthly FVF was LESS than twelve bucks! No listing fees and minimal FVF fees. No cost to try out while deciding if you want to give ebay the boot.

I provide 30 day returns now. I offer my buyers very good service and am very lenient on most returns. I also offer Free shipping on every item.
HOWEVER, I only provide FREE returns on my screw ups. I'm not Walmart.
So I see me leaving ebay forever. If I want Amazon policys I'll move my business to Amazon. I'm already listing on other venue's in preparation of leaving ebay.

It doesn't matter to me if eBay asks me to offer 90 days returns.  I get few returns at 30 days, and they usually have a good reason for it.  How will this help eBay?  Who knows?
What kind of a cook would wait 90 days to return an item on eBay?
