Megan Fox's rep has confirmed that the actress had a fling with former Transformers co-star Shia LaBeouf.

LaBeouf claimed in an interview this week that he and Fox were romantically involved during the filming of the first two Transformers films.

The actor said: "Look, you're on the set for six months with someone who's rooting to be attracted to you, and you're rooting to be attracted to them. I never understood the separation of work and life in that situation. But the time I spent with Megan was our own thing, and I think you can see the chemistry on screen."

LaBeouf expressed uncertainty as to whether Fox was dating her now-husband Brian Austin Green during their dalliance, answering "I don't know" 12 times when questioned about the timing of the relationship.

A rep for Fox has now confirmed the veracity of LaBeouf's claims to have dated the actress, telling the New York Daily News: "It is true."

Fox's spokesperson stressed that the two stars dated during the actress's brief split from Green in 2009 and weren't involved in any type of infidelity.

The actress eventually reunited with Green, with the couple going on to marry in June 2010.

Green and Fox celebrated their one-year anniversary by renewing their vows in Hawaii just two weeks ago.

LaBeouf recently suggested that Fox's departure from the Transformers franchise was "a blessing" because her character had reached the natural conclusion of her story arc.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon is now playing in US and UK cinemas.
