Striving to improve the human condition, explorers historically set out for the physical borders of unknown frontiers. Today, intellectuals and entrepreneurs strive to push the boundaries through intellectual and economic means within the new theoretical space of the digital world.
Artist Shawn Huckins’ exhibition, Everything Is Hilarious And Nothing Is Real, features a series of paintings in which he has methodical replicated famous masterpieces from American art history, then superimposed text abbreviations and slang used by the world to communicate through digital devices. These playful juxtapositions raise a very good question: is our world experiencing a disintegration of language and culture or an evolution and efficiency that may be used to benefit society as we whole?
