She'll become his duchess, and he'll keep her safe.
What begins as a marriage of convenience quickly becomes anything but as the enemy spy closes in on them. When both husband and wife have dark secrets, love may be the most dangerous mission of all.

"A sparkling debut for the Covert Heiresses series!...I SPY A DUKE is everything I have come to expect from [Monroe]: elegant and flowing prose, clever dialogues, engaging characters that are atypical of the usual historical romance fare...I SPY A DUKE is yet another proof that Erica Monroe is a force to reckon with in Regency romance!" -Fresh Fiction
"Filled with intrigue, danger, spies, loss, grief, secrets, passion, engaging characters, to say the least and of course romance, passion and finally finding love amongst grief and angst...feisty, dangerous and courageous females makes this a not to miss series." -My Book Addiction
"A quick moving espionage subplot coupled with liberally peppered humor, introspection, kindness and simmering attraction adds to the momentum of this novel. Showcasing this author's writing talent and marvelous imagination I Spy a Duke could easily be called I Spy a Great Read!" -Jenerated Reviews

Ms. Monroe always makes the time period and the British settings come alive with the glorious details that she provides. And then her characters are so engaging: serious, vulnerable, and loyal." -Lightning City Book Reviews

From the Inside Flap
In the case of I Spy a Duke, Vivian and James are two people who appear ordinary to most of the world-yet they each hold secrets that could cost the lives of the others. Their marriage at first is one of convenience, yet as they bond of their shared pain from the loss of their loved ones, they discover that sometimes love isn't so easy after all. And sometimes, the most dangerous thing the union between a duke and a governess faces isn't society's scrutiny, but instead the cold steel blade of an assassin's knife.
Will love triumph over evil? You'll have to read to find out. (But spoiler, it's a romance novel, so of course there's a happily ever after.)

- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2015I received this free ARC ebook from Netgallery for an honest review.
James Spencer, the Duke of Abermont had a big secret. He is the head of a spy agency. He is also grieving for his sister, who died as a result of a mission he sent her on so he also feels responsible. Vivian Loren, governess for the duke' s young brother also has a big secret, she is spying on the Duke. However, she is not a trained spy, but is spying in order to get information on who killed her brother. She also feels guilty, thinking she was responsible for his death.
So two grieving people come together with mutual understanding of what the other feels. The story becomes more complex as Vivian realizes the person who sent her to Abermont is also the person who killed her brother putting her in danger. She confesses everything to James who will do anything to protect her, even marry her. To find out the rest of the story, you must read the book since I don't like to write spoiler reviews. The storyline was fast paced, a real peace turner and definitely worth the time to read.
I have read several of Erica Monroe's books, and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series. I am hoping one of them features Ellie and Richard, I got the distinct impression there is something between them, at least from Richard's viewpoint.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2015So enjoyable to read a book with female characters who are smart and able to defend themselves. The spy is spied upon in a marriage-of-convenience story with a twist by a governess who is no shrinking spinster. She learns to defend herself and those she loves and is a true partner in love and life. She and the Duke find a HEA in the best of all possible ways, together. It's a fast-paced, fun story. I will read more by Erica Monroe.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2015I love stories about spies and this one intrigued me since it not only had spies and a secret organization but someone spying on the spy. Unfortunately even though I loved the story, I was not thrilled with the storytelling. I know everyone has their preference and mine is a lot of dialog. Not a lot in this book. It took over half the book before any real interaction. I really liked James even though he was aloof, but not uncaring, because I felt that he had his reasons. Vivian just wanted to find out why her brother was killed and her heartache could be felt. In the end I did enjoy the story.
I received a complimentary copy through NetGalley.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2016This was a very well thought out novel and well written. It was full of intrigue, suspense and love. The characters were well developed and the plot was developed in such a way that you didn't want to put the novel down. I loved the fact that spies then and now are such much the same. I didn't think that the hierarchy in England would be involved in tasks such as spying.
I like the thought that author would incorporated that the Lion would take a child off the streets of London and make it a ward and that a governess would become a Duchess. I don't think such things did happen, however, I don't know but it was a great part of the novel to see tenderness given on a lower class.
This is the first novel I have read from this author and I look forward to reading more from her in this series. I am much into historical romance and do pick up information that I can research.
Thank you for a great novel!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2018This melodrama reads like an homage to Jo Bourne without Bourne’s linguist facility and wiliness. To it’s credit, it sent me back to binge-read Bourne again. But if you haven’t yet read Bourne, this book is a good way to pass the time, as long as you don’t hope for any memories to relish.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2019I really enjoyed reading this book. Recency is my favorite era; however, after reading about spies during the money era the way Ms. Monroe wrote was very interesting. And I have to say the money era has written about quite extensively. Also, spy business has been written about, not like Ms. Monroe did though. With both H/h being involved. The only problem I have is where are the other books that were promised? Cyndi
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2020I enjoyed the plot, had a nice intreage to the tale, and it moved quickly not to be boring. I'd recommend this story.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2015A well crafted tale of intrigue, secrets and spy's doing their best whilst falling in love. Vivian is an appealing, feisty heroine and James a well drawn hero..To discover the rest, read and enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Got as far as chapter three, then deleted book ...
Got as far as chapter three ,then deleted book. They don't have "wipes" in regency times, neither did they have under secretary's in charge , too much Americanisms for my taste .
