Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann admitted on CNN that she was “misspeaking” when she claimed John Wayne was from her hometown Waterloo, Iowa.
“That’s the kind of spirit I have too,” she said, referring to the legendary actor, while announcing her intention to run against Barack Obama earlier this week.
In fact, serial killer John Wayne Gacy lived in Waterloo. The actor was born nearly 150 miles away.
The congresswoman said on CNN Tuesday that she identified with Wayne’s patriotism.
“I wish I could be perfect,” Bachmann said. “I’m a substantive, serious person [who has] a good sense on how to turn the economy around.”
