Lily Allen has revealed that she has started writing songs for the stage musical adaptation of Bridget Jones' Diary.

The 26-year-old singer-songwriter, who has announced that she is to take a step back from the music industry to start a family, first admitted that she was working on a musical theatre project in February 2010.

Almost 15 months later, Allen has finally revealed what the project entails in an interview with Elle magazine, explaining that it will be a musical adaptation of Bridget Jones' Diary.

Allen said of her current career plans: ''I'm still writing. I'm just writing for other people. I've nearly finished a musical. I think it'll be out sometime next year.

"I can't commit to going on tour for seven months and leaving [husband] Sam [Cooper]. I really miss singing my songs to people and seeing the reaction on their faces. It's one of the most special things you can do, or it was for me."

Allen told guests at her wedding reception last month that she is pregnant.
