MUSIC FESTIVALS - MUSIC FESTIVALS - MUSIC FESTIVALS - MUSIC FESTIVALS

I will survive Edinburgh! A new guide produced by VisitScotland will ensure that visitors to the Edinburgh Festivals this summer are no longer left red-faced after incorrectly trying to pronounce Cockburn Street. Music lovers, fashionistas, history and comedy buffs are also advised on acts and performances to suit their preferred tastes within the tens of thousands of shows on offer during July and August. The Edinburgh Festivals Survival Guide, produced by VisitScotland and supported by Edinburgh’s Festivals, is the national tourism organisation’s first ever handbook of its kind, detailing a selection of highlights from this summer’s events, plus insider hints and tips to make the most of the world’s festival city. The 60-page guide is available to download for free online from visitscotland.com and reveals what to expect in Edinburgh throughout the season, from unusual show venues such as Sandy’s Boxing Gym, Adam Pottery and Morningside Library; to hidden city gems like Dunbar’s Close Gardens off the Royal Mile,

Waverley Station market (every Friday) and the Signet Library pop-up champagne bar. Valuable information on where to eat, what to bring, correct pronunciations and how to travel to the city are also included in the guide, as well as the history of the festivals, recommended LGBT bars and pubs, where to go if travelling further afield and the 10 most visited attractions. The Edinburgh Festivals Impact Study, released in 2011, stated that the festivals over the course of the year generated £261 million of economic impact for Scotland, sustaining 5242 full time jobs in Edinburgh. Visitors are also being encouraged to explore nearby regions including Perthshire, the Scottish Borders, Fife, Stirling and the Lothians in the ‘Exploring Further Afield’ section. Ken Hay, Chair of Festivals Edinburgh said: “We welcome this initiative by VisitScotland which will help visitors to the city navigate the richness and diversity of Edinburgh during the August festivals. Edinburgh’s Festivals are distinctively Scottish and yet fiercely and famously international, attracting thousands of artists, performers and audiences from across the world each year. In a remarkable year for Scotland, this guide will assist the Festivals in capitalising on their enormous global value for the benefit of Scotland.”

CUTTING OFF KATE BUSH An alt-rock tragi-comedy about music, family and fame Edinburgh : 30 July - 25 August : www.facebook.com/cuttingoffkatebush TICKETS! @ https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/cutting-off-kate-bush

As Kate Bush prepares to give her wildly-anticipated first live performances in 35 years, writer-performer Lucy Benson-Brown will bring her own take on Cathy-fever to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, with CUTTING OFF KATE BUSH premiering at the Gilded Balloon. Bringing stadium euphoria to the intimacy of the fringe, the show promises a feast of lycra, chiffon and some epic dance moves. Featuring many of Kate Bush’s greatest hits, choreography is by Nadia Sohawon of Olivier Award winners Boy Blue Entertainment, whose credits include choreography for Mariah Carey, Plan B, Dizzee Rascal and the London Olympics Opening Ceremony.

Through the medium of Kate Bush. Who knows, perhaps she’ll get a million hits and be famous? Or not. Just thank God no one is watching. Yet... A one-woman play with musicality and comedy at its heart, the show recaptures 70s nostalgia for the Facebook generation, and asks how we can ever live up to the dream of our heroes – and whether they can help save us from ourselves. And with tickets for Kate Bush's Hammersmith Apollo shows trading for up to £2,000, CUTTING OFF KATE BUSH may be the next best thing for both fans and newcomers wondering what all the fuss is about.

'On the 21st March 2014, Kate Bush announced that after 35 years she was going to perform again. Big news. But then all of a sudden on Twitter all these people were going "Who the hell is Kate Bush? Have I missed something?" And I’m like: yeah pal, you have. I culled a lot of friends that day.'

Cathy is having a crisis. At 27, she’s going nowhere, has moved back home, and still can’t make peace with her Dad’s new girlfriend. https://twitter.com/cuttingkatebush So she’s venting on YouTube.

The Electric Fields date fits in before a full scale UK & Euro September/ October tour. No doubt their set at Electric Fields will include a mix of new material and some classics songs from their amazing albums ‘In The Pit Of The Stomach’ and ‘These Four Walls’. Electric Fields booker Chay Woodman said: “We’ve been waiting ages to announce We Were Promised Jetpacks. They’re the last band to be added to the line-up, but they were very much one of the first on our list and an early booking. But it’s been worth the wait because we know there’s nothing quite like Electric Fields in Dumfries & Galloway.” Electric Fields has a unique, unexplored home nestled in the idyllic setting of Drumlanrig Castle, South West Scotland. Organisers have worked tirelessly to put together a formidable line-up of musical talent at a ticket price that’s kind on the music-loving pocket. Wickerman’s Lucky 13! The Feeling, Del Amitri and Utah Saints bring brilliant two day Festival to a Close Wickerman returns on Friday 24 & Saturday 25 July 2015

As the flames of Wickerman’s iconic 40 foot statue burned brightly over a 15,000 strong crowd, organisers, artists and music fans were celebrating the 13th year of the festival being one of their ‘luckiest’ to date – near perfect weather, brilliant performances and a relaxed two days of music and entertainment. Saturday’s main Summerisle stage produced another day of memorable music, kicking off with sets from Cut Throat Razors, LIFE and The Tea Street Band, before crowds were treated to the cutting edge sounds of two of Scotland’s hottest new bands: Dundee’s Model Aeroplanes and Glasgow’s Baby Strange.

The Feeling, purveyors of some of the catchiest, best-loved pop songs of recent times thrilled fans from the start as a rainbow made a timely appearance over the arena. After starting with their massive hit ‘Fill My Little World’, their slick, melodic set kept the hits coming, with frontman Dan Gillespie Sells The familiar guitar intro of ‘In a Big leading a mass festival singalong to Country’ summoned the masses to ‘Never Be Lonely’ and ‘Sewn’ and a the Summerisle stage to enjoy a classic British covers mash up – powerful set of classic tracks from including Beatles and Kinks tracks Scottish music legends Big Country, to wild Wickerman applause. closing with a singalong finale of Some of Wickerman’s finest ‘Fields of Fire’ that could be heard moments have been when Scottish across the Galloway hills.
