Apply now to play Perthshire Amber Festival's 2016 Open Mic sessions Perthshire : 3-6 November : www.perthshireamber.com Perthshire Amber tickets (from 10 May) @ www.perthshireamber.com/index.php/buy-tickets This year's Perthshire Amber afternoon Open Mic sessions will again be held in the "Wee Festival Hall" upstairs at The Royal Dunkeld Hotel and hosted by Ewen Sutherland, who is a fine performer in his own right as well as a wonderful and encouraging compere. Dougie McLean and Ewen formed a folk duo while at school and then went on to form a band called Puddock's Well, which had an influence on the development of what is now called "the celtic music scene"- with members Andy M Stewart and Martin Hadden joining well known folk band Silly Wizard And Dougie himself joining The Tannahill Weavers. The Open Mic concept has been in existence for years at music festivals,

but of late has become more widely known through the very successful Open Mic sessions started by Danny Kyle at Glasgow's Celtic Connections Festival. The Open Mic gives the chance to musicians, who aren't performing at the evening concerts, to get involved in the weekend's music. The most important thing about an Open Mic is the audience. Over the past years the welcoming, attentive and responsive audiences at the open mic sessions helped to make the events enjoyable for all the performers involved. The dates for this year's Perthshire Amber Festival Open Mic are Saturday 5 November (12 midday-3pm) and Sunday 6 November (1pm -4pm). As with past years, the time for each performance will be limited to 10 minutes (2 songs max) per artist or group. Please note that this is an acoustic open mic event, with a good quality but small PA system, so we will not cater for heavily electric music. If you are interested in performing on one of the dates please email admin@butterstone.com with the name and a short desciption of you/ your band (with what instruments you play) and two mp3 music files so that we can have a listen and (hopefully) add you to our list. Please also send a mobile and home contact telephone number. There has always been a wonderful response from musicians of all ages and from all over the world!... there should be two really enjoyable afternoons of music.

McEwan’s Party at The Palace 2016 set to be this summer’s biggest party Linlithgow : 13-14 August : www.partyatthepalace.co.uk Party At The Palace tickets @ www.partyatthepalace.co.uk/#tickets

Following on from the success of last year’s McEwan’s Party at The Palace organisers are delighted to announce the acts that will top the bill for 2016. Set against the stunning backdrop of historic Linlithgow Palace, this year’s two day spectacular is set to be another highlight in Scotland’s live music calendar.

FULL PATP LINE-UP Saturday 13 August The Proclaimers The Fratellis Bootleg Beatles Gun Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5 Declan Welsh Lucia Fontaine The Luci Bains Band Saskia Eng Katy Doyle Sara Swati

The Proclaimers said: "We are delighted to be playing at Party At The Palace and to be doing so in such a beautiful location. We hope everyone that comes along has a great time, it will be a brilliant day"

Sunday 14 August

Sunday headliner, Billy Ocean is excited to be playing north of the border again - "I am looking forward to coming to the Party at the Palace. Bring your dancing shoes and be ready to sing along to all my hits. It’s always great fun in Scotland!" "At the end of our first year we thought - how are we going to top that line up? and then last year we brought more great bands to play here and we asked the same question. It’s never easy for independent festivals to compete with the big boys so to secure the calibre of acts we have for this year is absolutely fantastic and the feedback we’ve received already has been amazing. August can’t come soon enough!" - said PATP Producers John Richardson and Peter Ferguson. Other big news for this year’s event is that McEwan’s Party at The Palace has jumped across the loch for 2016. The move will allow a second stage to be introduced to the event, giving more bands access to the festival. It also gives festival go-ers easier access. It’s closer to the parking areas, increases capacity and allows us to have more on site facilities such as improved kids zone and more food outlets. Plus it still has an amazing view overlooking Linlithgow Palace and down the loch.

Located just 1 hour and 20 minutes from Edinburgh and with approximately a quarter of the bands based in Scotland [including young emerging artists like Indigo Velvet and Zoe Bestel], organisers are making it easy to attend. A special return bus service from the Scottish capital to the festival site will be announced soon.

The boutique festival, which overlooks the mystical Holy Island will also feature a range of DJ’s, holistic therapies, creative arts, comedy, poetry and a wide selection of high quality, locally sourced food and real ale.

Doune & Dunblane Fling Dunblane 26-28 May Like many others, the Fling was conceived with the help of music and alcohol. It began as an idea at the Dunblane Folk Club, among a group of people fond of music and fun. And so in May 1993 the first Fling happened. Since then the Fling has gone from strength to strength. Somewhere along the line the first 'Fling by the River' began. Held each Fling Saturday on Dunblane's historic Drying Green, its activities have ranged from an open stage for local young musicians, fire engines, space-hopper races and fire-eating jugglers, to the annual Rotary Club race for 4,000 plastic ducks down the Allan Water. Gradually a 'Fringe Fling' has developed, featuring over the years everything from ghost walks, pub quizzes, plays from the local Drama Group, master classes in everything from fiddling or mandolins to harmony singing or bodhran, and the now-annual Thursday Jazz Night. www.dunblanefling.com
