Perthshire will come alive with the sound of music as Perthshire Amber Festival returns Perthshire : 30 October - 8 November : www.perthshireamber.com TICKETS! @ www.perthshireamber.com/index.php/tickets2

It’s the final countdown to Scotland’s “most original acoustic music festival” Perthshire Amber, which returns with a stellar line-up, on 30 October. Headliners include ‘home grown’ talent DALLAHAN, EMILY SMITH, RURA, ROSS AINSLIE, BLAZIN’ FIDDLES, KARINE POLWART, BENNY GALLAGHER and THE WRIGLEY SISTERS all playing alongside DOUGIE MACLEAN, festival founder and the singer songwriter who gave us Scotland’s anthem ‘Caledonia’. The festival’s ‘home base’ is the picturesque village of Dunkeld in stunning autumnal Perthshire and runs for ten days until the 8 November. The well-loved festival features 25 venues throughout the region including historic castles, the stunning Dunkeld Cathedral, cosy village halls, the ancient Iron Age Crannog on Loch Tay and the prestigious Perth Concert Hall. The Byre at Inchyra, which is a wonderfully atmospheric venue dating from 1877 and formerly home to the cattle from the Inchyra Estate, is a new festival venue for 2015. It fell into ruin only to be beautifully restored over the past couple of years and festival organisers are delighted to add The Byre at Inchyra to the host of quirky and fascinating venues used during the festival.

Dallahan : www.facebook.com/DallahanMusic organisers are keen to extend that this year. With the help of Dougie MacLean’s international profile, visitors from 26 different countries were drawn to the festival in 2014 along with music fans from all over the UK, which all adds to the exciting festival atmosphere.

Ian Smith, Head of Music at Creative Scotland, said: “The continuing success of the Perthshire Amber festival is testament to Dougie MacLean's global reputation as a singer, songwriter and composer. Tickets @ email Paddy Bort for tickets .... ebort@ed.ac.uk

The Carrying Stream Festival is organised annually in November by the Edinburgh Folk Club to celebrate the life and work of the great Scottish folklorist and writer Hamish Henderson. Hamish Henderson, who was born in 1919 and died in 2002, is often referred to as the ‘father of the Scottish folk revival’. Since the year of his death, Edinburgh Folk Club has kept the memory of this remarkable man alive in an annual festival - which coincides with his birthday on 11 November dedicated to his life and legacy. But the Carrying Stream Festival is not just a shrine to the great folklorist, song collector,

http://efc1973.com/carrying-stream-festival poet and songwriter, political activist and convener of inspired colloquia in Sandy Bell’s – it is a Festival in the spirit of Hamish Henderson: celebrating traditional music, song, storytelling and poetry in all their historical and contemporary contexts, presenting established tradition bearers alongside international acts and up-and-coming talents. It is looking backward and forward as part of the carrying stream of the folk tradition. Hamish Henderson died in 2002 aged 82 and he was one of Scotland’s most prominent cultural figures. He was a leading architect of the Scottish folksong renaissance and co-founder of the University’s School of Scottish Studies. Hamish's many interests included being a folksong collector, a cultural historian, a Scottish nationalist, and an international democratic socialist. A committed Europhile, he was also a supporter of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, a campaigner against Apartheid and injustice in general. From the late 1930s there is information in the 'Hamish Henderson Archive Trust' about Henderson’s attempts to help smuggle Jews out of Germany, and in the cold war era there is correspondence with the American Embassy in London calling for clemency in the 1952 case of convicted spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, who were eventually executed for passing nuclear secrets to the Russians. Henderson wrote the song “Men of Rivonia” in the 1960s in support of Nelson Mandela and the South African freedom fighters. The Trust's archive contains a letter of thanks from the ANC to Henderson. He met Mandela when the South African visited Glasgow in 1993 following his release. You can find out more about the Trust @ www.hendersontrust.org
