Conservatoire of Scotland. The Late Night Festival club will take place in the Arch Inn on West Shore Street. This year, the Club will be hosted through out the weekend by Ace Blues Man Pete Price. At the Festival Club you can share a pint or ten with the guests, and pick up the odd trick of the trade. But as Ullapool regulars will know, the real buzz of the club comes from the spontaneous (and sometimes unlikely) combinations of various musicians that take place. There will be some intriguing duos, trios and quartets coming

together in the early hours, and we can anticipate the usual mix of guitar pyrotechnics, Elvis singalikes, and terminally-bad jokes. What more could a guitar head want? A Weekend ticket entitles you to entry to all 5 concerts, 3 late night festival clubs and all workshops and master classes. ** MNS update - in our last edition we highlighted Mike Vass and Innes Watson, unfortunately both have had to pull out of UGF.

We know people travel from all over the world to enjoy our concerts, however it’s often the walks, talks and workshops that help visitors feel a part of the festival. Discoveries gives people the chance to learn something new, either by trying a new instrument or improving their photography or learning about Perthshire’s fascinating history and culture. This part of the world is so important to me, so much of my music is inspired by the landscape, the history and the people and I enjoy being able to share some of that with our audiences.” Paul Bush OBE, Director of Events at VisitScotland, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Perthshire Amber through our Beacon programme. The additional food and drink offering as part of the Amber Discoveries Fringe programme will provide festival-goers with the opportunity to enjoy talks and workshops while sampling the very best local produce. The festival is a fantastic celebration of the music of Dougie Maclean and of the region’s culture and history, which contributes toward making Scotland the perfect stage for events.” To complete the delicious offering at Perthshire Amber, the team from Tennent’s will be holding tastings of their Caledonia Best beer at many of our evening concerts.

Dunbar Traditional Music Festival Dunbar 25-27 September The Dunbar Traditional Music Festival continues to flourish since it began in 1988. Set in the historic seaside town of Dunbar, the Festival is committed to showcasing local and young talent alongside well established and internationally known artists. Song, music, pipes & drums, children's workshop, informal tunes and sessions, concerts, ceilidhs and open air performances are the traditional hallmarks of the annual September event. The Festival caters for a wide range of musical tastes. Initially the focus was on traditional Scottish and Irish music but in recent years this has broadened to include jazz, blues, Appalachian, country, bluegrass and skiffle. www.dunbarmusicfestival.co.uk

The third annual multi-venue music festival from Scotland’s largest music platform Tenement TV will feature a packed line-up including a headline Art School show from Glasgow’s WHITE, sets from Atom Tree, Crash Club, Monogram, Pinact, Other Humans and Team Player. Taking place for over 12 hours on Saturday 4th October 2015, the Tenement Trail festival organisers have also revealed that Lisa Mitchell, AmartArt, Be Charlotte, Bella and The Bear, The Van T’s, Declan Walsh and Aylee will appear. www.tenementtv.com

The Spree Paisley 9-17 October Paisley's national festival of music, comedy and arts, now in it third year - taking place at various venues in the town centre . The Spiegeltent will be back in County Square to host the bulk of the action but there will be a few big-name shows in the Abbey as well as stuff happening at Paisley Arts Centre and elsewhere. We also have a few surprises in store!

So why is the UGF so special? Perhaps it’s the mix of music old and new, of electric and acoustic, of steel and nylon, of seasoned performers and those, like the students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, just starting out on their careers. Perhaps it’s the location on Loch Broom and the drive up through some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery. Perhaps it’s the informal air of the whole weekend: there’s no “us and them”, no VIP area. Everyone mingles, and you’re likely to find yourself sitting beside a guitar legend in the Festival Club – or even jamming with them on one of the trade stands. www.ullapoolguitarfestival.com
