Troubled British rocker Pete Doherty has been released from prison after serving less than half of his six-month sentence.
The former Libertines star, who has long struggled with drug addiction, was jailed in May (11) after pleading guilty to a charge of cocaine possession, but he walked free on Tuesday (05July11) after nearly three months behind bars.
A post on Doherty's official website reads, "On this bright sunny morning Peter was released from prison and thanks everyone for their valued support whilst inside".
Doherty's drug conviction stemmed from a January, 2010 arrest which came after cops searching the London apartment where his close pal Robyn Whitehead died found film footage which appeared to show the star smoking crack cocaine.
However, the rocker's release from prison this week (beg04Jul11) does not mark the end of his legal troubles - German authorities have announced they intend to press charges against Doherty over an alleged burglary in March (11).
The Babyshambles frontman, who admits he was outside a record store in Regensburg, Germany but denies any memory of an alleged break-in, faces the possibility of a five-year jail sentence if convicted on a charge of "careless intoxication".
