Intersectionality* and Privilege - October 2018 Equity Alliance Roundtable

The Equity Alliance of the North Coast is excited to continue our public Racial Equity Roundtables with our next offering October 4, conversations about "Intersectionality* and Privilege". Please join us as we build our understanding of these topics and delve into discussions about how acknowledging our privilege empowers us to use it as a tool for positive change and racial justice. Using short videos, dialogue, and structured exercises on intersectionality and privilege, we will think together on how our racial identities are just one part of our diverse experiences with power and marginalization; and practice respectful strategies to be more inclusive. All Roundtable sessions include time for personal reflection (including thinking and feeling), small group conversation, and practice talking about race, with an aim of supporting productive dialogue about race and racism both during the session and beyond. Facilitated by Melissa Meiris and Ron White. Register soon as space is limited. Event registration is sliding scale ($5, $10 or $15) and scholarships are available. If you need a scholarship, please choose "Pay at Door" as your payment option while registering and then either email your scholarship request to equitynorthcoast@hafoundation.org or let us know at the door. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Please feel free to bring food if that is most convenient. Child care will be provided by the Equity Alliance for the duration of the event because of our generous donors. If you would like to bring a teenaged family member to the event, please let us know by emailing equitynorthcoast@hafoundation.org and we will provide a scholarship.

*Intersectionality refers to the intersection of the multiple identities we all carry (including race, gender, physical or mental ability, sexual orientation, age, religion, class etc.) and the degrees of privilege and social marginalization that come with each.

Cancellations: A full refund will be given if your registration is canceled 24 hours prior to the session for which you registered. Any cancellations within that time-frame are non-refundable, with exception for those with emergencies.
