About the author

Charlene E. Green (AKA Hustle Diva) is a northern California native who has been writing since very early childhood, penning short stories and poetry, but never thinking of it as more than a hobby. Her first major writing project was a movie screenplay written in 1999 titled Love's Train, which was based on her short story "A Valentine's Day to Remember," written in junior college. She taught herself the scriptwriting craft, and while working a full-time job with the California Dept. of Corrections (at the time) she completed the project in just over a month. Until that point, her passion for writing had lain dormant for years; but after completing her script, she realized it had always been her calling.
In 2001, while [still] in the process of searching for a producer for her movie, she began working on her first novel, One Man's Treasure. With aspirations to be immersed in the entertainment and literary industries, she made the decision to relocate to Los Angeles, and did so in 2003. After completing her novel, she connected with publisher, author, and philanthropist Dr. Rosie Milligan, whom she sought out for agency representation. Dr. Milligan liked One Man's Treasure so much that she immediately took her on as a client. During that time, their relationship grew, and Charlene developed an interest in editing and proofreading. In 2005, she began an internship working as a copy editor and proofreader for Dr. Milligan. Her first major [joint] editing project was rapper/producer Dr. Dre's mother Verna Griffin's autobiography titled Privileged to Live. She further interned for literary agent and best-selling author Dr. Maxine Thompson (currently Charlene's literary agent) as a copy editor and story editor. In 2006, she started her own editing business, Punctuality Editing Service (now Charlene E. Green's Literary Services).
In May 2007, after several years attempting to have her novel published mainstream, Charlene took matters into her own hands and self-published One Man's Treasure through Milligan Books. Then, as fate would have it, in December 2007, Dr. Maxine Thompson presented her with the opportunity to have OMT picked up mainstream, and in January 2008 was offered a two-book deal with Kensington Publishing. One Man's Treasure was released internationally on April 1, 2009, and the sequel, And They'll Come Home, was released on March 2, 2010. The third novel in the series, Aftershock, is in production.
Since moving to L.A., Charlene has revisited her talent for writing poetry, and expanded her collection of works. To date, she has over 80 pieces in her portfolio. Though she dabbled briefly in the open-mic scene in 2004/2005, she decided to step away and spend more time writing and honing her skills. In April 2008, she was bitten hard by the open-mic bug when she entered a spoken-word contest at the annual Black Writers on Tour convention, not having done any open mic in over three years, and took fourth place after having competed with more than 20 poets, many of them veterans in the realm. From there, she bombarded the open-mic venues with fervor, adding spoken-word artist to her list of talents. Charlene has been known to frequent the local Los Angeles poetry venues up to five nights a week, inspiring hundreds with her unique words. She has also hosted several events as well as performed in many shows and done speaking engagements after having been seen and approached by some of those whose lives she has touched. She is known on the poetry scene as Hustle Diva.
Charlene is also a gifted motivational speaker who has been praised for her ability to encourage people to pursue avenues in their lives they were otherwise daunted by the thought of doing, by helping them see the ways in which they can proceed without feeling overwhelmed. One of her recent motivational projects is her self-help career guide You Are What You Say You Are: Claiming Your Life's Mission & Living Your Dream, which she wrote specifically for those who are struggling with discovering their true mission in life. This brief yet very relatable guide breaks down in detail the process of finding what you're truly passionate about, how to go about exposing yourself to it, and what to expect after you've entered the realm.
In addition to promoting her novels, Charlene is promoting her poetry books From Me to You...Through Mine Eyes (3-book series), Vicariously Speaking, and My Sentiments Exactly (currently in production); her first spoken-word CD She Is Poetry, and her second spoken-word CD Lip Service (for release in 2012); and her new book Wisdom Nuggets. She is also preparing for her worldwide spoken-word tour, where she will focus on the use of her self-esteem-based poems and motivational talks to help impact & change the lives of those who suffer various emotional setbacks resulting from lack of self-love. She is also still pursuing the long-awaited production of her movie, Love's Train, as well as working on turning both her novels into movies.

I hate to admit it but if I was in Katrice shoes, I probably would have done the same thing to purge Royce from my system; but in the end, was it worth it? Her fantasy caused a domino effect, and as the reader, I felt each affect. By the time I finished reading this book, my emotions were all over the place! Katrice and Weston's actions were both HARD pills to swallow!
This book is sooooooooooo realistic, it will have you laughing, crying, depressed, yelling, and not knowing what the heck you are feeling!!!
The sex scenes were on point, not raunchy, if you know what I mean.
*Disclaimer....Read "One Man's Treasure" first and then read, "And They'll Come Home."*
I'm so excited about this book that my review isn't doing it much justice. All I have to say is this is a MUST READ!
I can't wait for Ms. Green's next book release! The sky is definitely her limit if she keeps putting the pen to the paper, and knocking them out the ballpark like this book!
In the words of Martin Lawrence, "You Go Guuurl!"
10***********stars!!
This novel takes the reader on a ride with many pit stops. Katrice and Weston are forced to deal with love on terms unfamiliar to them both. They have some tough decisions to make and there's a possibility that love won't conquer all. This novel is sure to make you re-evaluate how you think of relationships, question the decisions you have made in the past and force you to re-evaluate some current relationships.
Charlene "Hustle Diva" Green has written one of the best novels I've read when it comes to dealing with issues of the heart. Not only does she address male/female relationships but she takes on the hard task of dealing with father/son relationships. This is by far not an easy task for a woman but she pulled it off in such a real manner. This book really did my heart good. It made me sit back and just think about life, my life and the places I've been and the place I'm going.
My favorite quote from this novel is:
"Honey, people make mistakes. You expect everybody to be perfect, and they're not. You gotta open your heart a little more. Learn to listen. Learn to try to understand people. 'Specially people you love." <---(Was she talking to me?)
After I finished reading this novel, this quote stuck with me. In our loving, we have to learn to accept people for who they are and aren't and love them in spite of. Another thing about this story that I loved was the grammar. The story was told by Katrice and she used 'proper' English when narrating for the most. However, when she got to the dialogue she used loose grammar. It made me think of real girl talk where we don't use correct English in the midst of our loved ones and friends. We just get comfy and say what we want with no regrets and no judgment from others.
Kudos Hustle Diva. I look forward to reading your new novel, And They'll Come Home very soon. Congrats on all your success as you soar to the top.
