Perform at the Otherworld Incubator
The Incubator is an opportunity for performers of all genres to test show ideas and material. Otherworld Theatre's Incubator offers a unique opportunity for performers and teams to experiment with new forms and techniques, and/or play with science fiction and fantasy related themes. Teams can opt in to receive notes from Otherworld's Improv and Sketch Curators, and other Chicago comedy veterans sitting in on the monthly panel. The Incubator is available to all performers regardless of genre or team size. Previous incubators have hosted improv, sketch, musical improv, standup, solo shows, and variety acts. Performers are encouraged but not required to use their Incubator set as an opportunity to develop sci-fi and fantasy shows for Otherworld.
FAQ:
1. How is this different from an open mic? At the Incubator, acts are booked in advance, and performers may opt in to receive feedback from a panel of producers and comedians.
2. Does my act need to be fantasy or sci-fi oriented? NO! While we want to facilitate creation of more genre-based acts, we accept all performers.
3. How long does my act need to be? Solo acts should have a minimum of 7 minutes of material and a maximum of 15. Group acts may have 30 minutes (more time can be allocated on a per-case basis).
4. Are there restrictions on group size? No! (if you have more than ten people, let us know!)
5. Is this a pubic event! YES! We encourage you to attend the Incubator each month to support your fellow performers, and you are welcome to invite/share the event. This is a free event!
6. I've never performed. Can I? While we are excited you want to perform, we do prefer that groups have practiced their form/perfomed it a few times, and that solo acts have some performance experience. This should be an opprtunity to refine your material and test a form you've worked on.
