Here's my improvisation over the backing - I'm trying to break out of a single position and utilize more fretboard tongue.gif

That's a really nice tone duder. I like that a lot.

Thanks, bleez, and likewise smile.gif

I was struggling a bit to get my sound to "glue" to the backing track, so it's not as nice as I would have liked it to be.

Nicely done!! I like your use of a sort of repetitive motif as a chorus type of bit. Very melodic and soulful the entire way. That's what really works well on this backing IMHO, and you nailed it!!!! Great bending and vibrato as well. Didn't hear one note that was out of place. In short, you KARUSHED IT!!

really cool backing to play over. No wonder so many guitarists have covered it smile.gif

I like how your tone cuts through the mix and I dig that wah sound. Is that a pedal or auto wah part of a preset? either way, it's working to great effect smile.gif Adds a lot to it. I like your run at the end as well after the song is done and your like 'I'm not done yet!" and you keep playing smile.gif Nice! You have very good technique here as well which I've watched develop over our Saturday sessions. You are more than ready to jump in the shark pool and start shredding it up!! In short.....

My take with a video..... a bit hard, tired and seriousely drugged......

Laurent

BEN! Great to see you in the challenge and I finally get to see that killer guitar in action! I should have bought one when I had the chance!!!! Sounds great. Also, your playing is quite good here. I like the way you transition from some very difficult chops with grace. Getting from arps to tapping and back to picking can me a rough transition and you kept it very smooth. No string noise, nothing missed, just good playing. In short.....

WOW! This is an improvement! I liked that last one but I really dig this one smile.gif It's a bit more active and you throw in some trills and other techniques to spice it up!!!! The last take was plenty good enough to badge up, but this one is even better. I can see some of the chops we work on making their way in to your soloing which is great! Some of it though is all you which is also great smile.gif Being able to blend what you learn and what you make up on your own is critical. Well played smile.gif

Todd

Quick gritty Take for the SatShredFest. Can't do video yet and gotta do Paradise Lost Vid final first. Maybe I repost vid when I got more time.

This was a cool track to jam to. I'll use better audio next time! Had to get in on the first shredfest challenge.

PS. If anyone is a fan of Vinnie Moore. Look up his cover of this song it is awesome. cool.gif

Spiff take!! Nothing less than I'd expect from you smile.gif I like how you even went "Atonal" for a bit just for texture. Takes stones and skills for such. I like the traditional licks combined with the almost proggy bits as well. Very nice for contrast. I'm very happy you got in on this smile.gif The quality is fine for me so if it works for you then you can just do whatever you did here for the next one as well. As long as I can hear the solo against the backing that's all that matters to me smile.gif Doesn't have to be a big production. But it's up to you!! In short, you KILLED IT!!!

Welcome to the SHREDFEST!!! I thought your take was very original. It was gritty and raw which gave it it's own flavor. Sounded very much like a live jam sort of thing which is always cool smile.gif Well done! I hope you can complete your collab vid and get a chance to make a vid for this too so I can give you your first SHRED CHALLENGE mission badge!!!! Cell phone vid is fine, just start the collab playing on your computer, and play along and use web cam/cell phone/whatever and put it on youtube for me. Looking forward to seeing it!

Todd

Ah'll right. I did a quick crummy vid. It's blurry cause I had to use the facing camera of my IPhone since set up is a pain using the better front camera.

Nice!! Again very raw and gritty which provides very good contrast to the fluidity of the background. I noticed toward the end and open string type lick with hammer ons that I liked a lot as I do something similar in many of my own solos. Well played and welcome to the club!!!!

Thanks. The end did indeed use an repeating pull off to an open 6th string while moving up the A minor scale using the 5th and 6th string. I was testing a new setting on my Axe-Fx which is somewhat gritty and harsh. I played a number of notes outside the scale in sections usually a half step down and either bent to the note, tried a wider tremolo, or hammered on to the note in the scale which I think added more grittiness too. And I tried to grip the pick short close to the tip and let my pick hand fingers hit the strings at times which made the notes less fluid and 'guttural' or buzzy.

Great Challenge Idea Todd. Something that can be done quick but still practice some things.
