- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2012With prose that often flows like poetry, Smith draws readers into an early medieval world shrouded in myth and legend (think post-Arthurian Britain), gives them an exquisitely developed hero and heroine on a destiny-changing mission, and beautifully lays the groundwork for what promise to be some blockbuster stories to come. Although neither pure erotica nor a true romance, this historical fantasy is every bit as erotically sensual and emotionally satisfying as both--and it's a story you won't be able to forget. I loved it...and think anyone who loves fantasy and romance will, too.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2012Quite enjoyed the mix of British lore and passion. Just felt it was cut a bit short and left me hanging
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2012I'd read a short novella by Smith earlier, and expected the same steamy romance this time. Well, it's definitely steamy, but this is quite different, showing the author's versatility with genre. This is historical, set in the pre-Norman Saxon period of English history. The testing of the hero and the choices he has to make create more intense drama that looks like it will affect his kingdom too for many years to come. We might read for the eroticism, but conclude with more understanding of the hero and his future.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2012LGC Smith has written a lovely, powerful tale that draws you in and won't let go. The characters have dimension and memorable personalities ... the scenes are visual and enticing ... the story is well crafted and gripping. This little book is beautifully written - well worth a read. You can't go wrong with any book by LGC Smith, this just happens to be a personal favorite. Buy it - love it!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2012This new eBook is a delight. Smith's rich language evokes a mystical, mythical world that is nonetheless so well imagined as to be nearly tangible. Her main characters are epic, yet human... the stuff of legend, literally. The book isn't long, but it's jam-packed with wonder. I can't wait to read the rest of Smith's works. Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2012LGC Smith does it again. This historical fantasy takes the reader deep into a long ago world. The incredible level of evocative detail turns this read into a fantastic trip back in time and into a fantasy world that is so finely drawn you'll believe it is real. Can't wait for the full-length follow on novel, Bonds of Destiny.
