Project Blizzard | Diy testbench with custom watercooling

Hello,

its about time i start a build log on my latest project witch is a scratch built test bench with watercooling. Huge thanks to Aquatuning.de for the watercooling gear!. This is also my first build log i am posting here so keep your eyes open there will be more stuff coming. The idea behind the project was to make a nice looking testbench witch has good cooling capabilities and practical.

Update 02

 

Like always there are problems, this time not with the build itself rather with the pictures so i had to improvise a bit.

 

The bottom plate is made of 7mm thick veneer, the veneer sheet is sitting inside grooves i made in the side pieces. I really wanted to avoid using screws so the side pieces and the top edges are connected with glue and wood pins. The top edges was rounded by hand on a band belt sander. Update 03

 

Today i have been working on the top plate witch the motherboard will be sitting the cable management holes were cut and sanded by hand as always.

Update 05

 

More sanding and and filling the imperfections with wood filler. I had to fill the holes and sand multiple time to get desired result.

Update 07

 

So ive been working a lot on the 3D printed parts the last few days. The 3D printer used is a cheap (170€) DIY kit but after A LOT of hours getting i dialed in i am really happy with the quality of the prints it can produce. Started of by making some simple stuff like the motherboard stand offs every thing was designed in Fusion360.

Going to use some new white filament i got cheap on amazon.

From left to right, First tried with 210c at the hotend, second try 200c, and final run 195c also lowered the speed from 60mm/s to 40mm/s because the part is so small.

Hmm so looks like they are too short so lets some taller ones,

That is a lot better, the corner is bending upwards a little because of the backplate thats why it isn't flush with the mount. Haven't decided if i will glue them to the plate or use some strong double sided tape but i am leaning more towards the tape.

3D printed a holder for the start/reset buttons.

First try started bending on the build plate and eventually came lose.

Update 09

 

The fans i will be using aren't just any standard computer fans :) they are actually the fans from old dell optiplex full towers, they are NMB 4715KL-04W-B56 fans to be more precise. I decided to use these fans because i know they can push loads of air and performance of the bench is is pretty dependent on the fans. So in this update i will be prepare the fans for some white paint to mach the theme.

I have also been working on some new mounts for the reservoir because that is the first thing you will see.

 

Started by designing it in fusion 360.
