Hello, Cancun lovers! It's time for another round of the latest news from our favorite Mexican beach paradise. So buckle up and let's dive right in!

COVID-19 Safety Prevails in Cancun's Restaurants

First up, let's talk about the pandemic situation. The National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry in Cancun (CANIRAC) has assured everyone that there haven't been any Covid-19 cases in restaurants. Thanks to their unwavering commitment to safety and hygiene protocols, diners can rest easy while enjoying their mouthwatering meals. So, folks, no need to panic or spread any false rumors. Let's keep the good times and the delicious food flowing!

A report of the Ministry of Health of Quintana Roo (SESA) indicates that the entire population should continue to take care of themselves, constantly use antibacterial gel, and in case of any symptoms, go to the doctor for a test. As of August 3, 124,184 positive cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed so far and recent 125 cases are being followed up.

Taxi Drivers Gone Wild

In a shocking incident that sent waves through the city, a group of taxi drivers decided to take the “drive aggressively” motto a bit too far. They assaulted a tourist carrier with passengers on board right in the heart of Cancun. Thankfully, the police stepped in to restore order. But Cancun's business sector is having none of this nonsense. They're demanding strict action against those involved, including revoking their licenses and concessions. Remember, hospitality and welcoming vibes are our signature moves; we can't let unruly behavior tarnish our reputation!

Tourism Keeps Soaring High

Despite the pandemic and some hiccups in US tourism, Cancun remains a favorite destination for international travelers. The Cancun International Airport welcomed a staggering 4.835 million tourists by air in the first half of the year. That's right, we're still the top choice, grabbing a 44.6% market share. US tourists still flock to our shores, with 2.6 million making their way here, making up 39.6% of Mexico's total. Canada comes in second, contributing 53.5% of the Canadian tourists to Mexico. And let's not forget Colombia, adding some spicy salsa to the mix, with 45.5% of its travelers choosing Cancun. In total, we're looking at 3.5 million international visitors coming to our tropical haven.

Beaches Get Cleaner

The sun is shining, and the beaches are calling! As we enjoy the summer holiday season, the municipality of Benito Juárez has upped its game in keeping our public beaches spick and span. They've added 15 more cleaning personnel to tackle the increased amount of rubbish generated on our busiest beaches, like Playa Delfines and Playa El Niño. But fear not, most of the trash is actually ending up in the bins (hooray.). So, let's be responsible beachgoers and help keep our paradisiacal shores clean.

Turtle Nests Under Watchful Eyes

Hey, turtle lovers. Listen up because we have fantastic news. The Directorate of Ecology in Benito Juárez has been hard at work protecting our precious turtle nests. They've set up 56 turtle pens along our 12 kilometers of beautiful beaches. With 40 dedicated volunteers, they've already safeguarded around 7,500 nests, and there's more to come.

This year is expected to be a bumper nesting season for the four turtle species that grace our shores. And get this, folks, we might witness over a million adorable baby turtles hatching and making their way to the sea. But we need your help. The hotel sector has been incredibly supportive by turning off their lights during nesting times. So, let's all pitch in to make sure these little cuties have the perfect nesting spot.

That's it for today's news. Cancun is as vibrant as ever, overcoming challenges with resilience and a touch of magic. Stay safe, keep our beaches clean, and let's welcome our turtle friends with open arms. Until next time, adiós and enjoy the sunny days in our beloved Cancun.
