Amazing Hotels In Bangkok Along The River

Many visitors don’t think of Bangkok as a family destination but it absolutely is. Here are the 5 top family-friendly hotels in Bangkok, Thailand.

Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok

With one of the best locations in the city, Siam Kempinski is perfect for families, visiting couples, and travelers of all ages. The hotel is located immediately behind the Siam Paragon – one of Bangkok’s most impressive and premium shopping mall, home to more than 100 restaurants in the lower level of the mall alone.

There’s a ton of activities for children and many of those extend to the rest of the family. For example, the swimming pool is one of the most substantial in the city, for which many rooms have an excellent view.

The Kempinski is walking distance from dozens of restaurants, attractions, shopping, and convenient connections to transportation links including the BTS, metro, plenty of taxis, and tuk tuks for short-haul transportation that kids love.

Mandarin Oriental Bangkok

The Mandarin Oriental makes many of the top hotel lists throughout Suites and Lobbies because of its exquisite taste, two-starred Michelin restaurant, and beautiful views of the Chao Phraya river.

The luxury resort emphasizes its welcoming gesture and encourages “little fans” (a play on its signature Chinese folding fan and the name of its loyalty program.) Babysitting services are available with registered nurses provided by the hotel for a fee. As a parent who often stays in luxury hotels as a family, the little efforts like a robe for the child as well as slippers just like the parents have is something that goes a long way.

On this hotel list, the Mandarin Oriental is the only true five star hotel and makes an effort to be a kid-friendly hotel in Bangkok. The hotel doesn’t offer a kids club but does make the children feel like guests in their own right. For parents, costs are lowered in the hotel’s restaurants for meals, though an evening at the Normandie may not be to their taste and preferences.

An evening boat ride on the Mandarin’s private vessel is yet another advantage of this Bangkok riverside property.

Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit

One of the newest (and nicest) entrants to the Bangkok hotel scene is the Hyatt Regency Sukhumvit. Located right in the heart of the city at Sukhumvit (between soi 11 and 13), it’s one of the most impressive Hyatt Regency hotels in the world. The hotel also completed an elevated walkway to the Nana BTS skytrain station so guests can avoid the street and stairs outside.

The staff at the Hyatt Regency always had my daughter in mind during our stay. Knowing that she’d be arriving and that we have been to Bangkok before but not to their new hotel, they had a gift waiting for her in our room upon check-in. We were able to enjoy a bedroom suite that gave us extra space.

Kids menu items, admittance to the stunning top floor lounge, and a general embrace of their presence are just some of the ways the property caters to families especially of smaller children. The concierge was able to secure a table at the top restaurant in Asia with special arrangements for our daughter who would not have otherwise enjoyed her experience at the world’s best Indian molecular gastronomy restaurant.

Kids pool toys are available on the pool deck along with shallow pools and covered loungers to keep sensitive skin away from the blistering Bangkok sun.

Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers

As they say in real estate: location, location, location. The Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers is another riverside hotel that makes the list but more affordable than the Mandarin Oriental.

While less luxurious than some of the other riverside hotels, Sheraton does a great job of welcoming families. Family rooms that connect help families with older children who may need their own space but still need to remain connected to the family.

The property is also a short tuk tuk ride away from backpacker paradise, Khao San Road which offers nightlife and a varied experience for families with older children.

As a member of the Marriott family of hotels, Bonvoy members can earn and burn points at the property including upgrades to suites for elite members as they are available.

Conrad Bangkok

Recently remodeled, the Conrad Bangkok and associated Conrad Residences Bangkok next door towers over Wireless Road in the business and embassy district. The high rise extends dozens of floors skyward sending an imposing image over the expansive pool. Kids will love roaming staff who hand out fresh fruit skewers and serve kids with an adjusted poolside menu for the hotel’s little guests like cheeseburger sliders.

Children were welcome in the club lounge, so long as they adhere to the dress restrictions as the adults would. More than anything else, the staff loves to see kids in the lounge because families often do not bring their children along, so our daughter was often doted upon in a way that the other adults in the room were not.

Luxury extends to the whole family at the Conrad Bangkok including in the spa. During our last visit, my three-year-old daughter was able to try a chocolate massage alongside her mother who received a more traditional Thai massage.

When hotels go out of their way to create offerings that would appeal specifically to children and families, it cements the positive experience for everyone in the party and helped us make the most of our stay in Bangkok.
