Parole Officer Jeremiah “Jim” Borden is on administrative leave after angering some of his superiors. Sporting a broken arm and a lot of baggage, he’s pleasantly surprised when his long-time crush knocks on his door and asks him out. Calista Barlow is a single mother working as a waitress at a local diner that Jim purposely frequents so that he can see her. They’ve both liked each other from a distance for months, and have finally taken the steps toward dating. However, secrets from both of their pasts come back to haunt them, along with an increasing amount of danger. Jim will do whatever it takes to keep Calista and her daughter safe, but at what cost?

This is such a great romantic suspense! Like the first book in the series, this one is steamy!! Jim and Calista have been crushing on each other for a while, and when they get together, it is explosive! Calista has many insecurities, including body image issues, and I love how Jim boosts her confidence and accepts her unequivocally. Calista does the same for Jim and loves him for who he is, even if he can be a bit overbearing at times. She sees past his tough exterior and loves the kind, protective, and loving man underneath. Their relationship is a roller coaster of emotions, and it is fast-moving, but it makes sense considering how long they’ve cared for each other.

Jim ends up going through an internal and ethical conflict that I found really interesting. He is an honorable man with strong morals, and it disheartens him to know that many of his colleagues don’t share the same upstanding ideals. Corruption runs deep, and Jim is determined to get to the bottom of it. This corruption makes Jim reevaluate his feelings about his job, his career goals, and his priorities.

Calista also has a lot of baggage, and she goes through many obstacles, most noticeably troubles with her daughter’s father and perverse phone calls. Her baby daddy threatens Calista in more ways than one, and the phone calls feel threatening. Between Calista’s problems and Jim’s, the story includes a ton of suspense. As Calista and Jim become deeply immersed with a dangerous crime family and increasing gang activity, by-the-book, rule-following Jim begins to see that sometimes you have to break the rules for good reasons. He also learns just how far he is willing to go for the people he loves.

Romance, secrets, surprising revelations, attempted kidnappings, and other dangers make for a page-turning read. I love Calista and Jim’s story and so rooted for their happy ending. Though this is the second book in the Arresting Onyx series, it can totally be read as a standalone. That being said, Arresting Mason, the first book in the series, is just as good as this one. Also, Mason and Mia make appearances in this book, which I love! It’s great to see what the couple is up to and how their relationship with Jim has grown and changed. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy steamy romantic suspense with great characters and a super-sexy love story and am thankful to Amber Daulton for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Jeremiah "Jim" Borden has long been harboring feelings for waitress Calista Barlow, but he has stayed away until she finds out he is injured and shows up on his door step with food. Jim is ready to see where it will go with Calista but what he doesn't realize is that someone is after Calista. Calista has a lot on her plate and is not one to trust easily, but something about Jim has Calista wanting to try. Can she find happiness with Jim or are they doomed to fail?

I thought the chemistry was fantastic between Jim and Calista. I appreciated the fact that Calista was a dedicated mother and hard worker who is doing the best she can. I thought the evolution of Jim was intriguing, a lot in this story takes place and I definitely want to go back and read the first book. Terrific story.

Oh, Book Friends! Action, suspense, a long-time-coming attraction makes Arresting Jeremiah a fantastic read. Jim, a parole officer who's been put on leave, gets a surprise ending to a very stressful day in the form of his crush standing at his doorstep. It all just kicks off from there. And the banter? So much fun!

It's a sexy read filled with all the things I love in an action/adventure romance.

Jeremiah has issues. I mean the guy is carrying around so much it's really messing with his head but try as he might it can't come between him and the woman who has stolen his heart. He hasn't kissed or even had a date but he knows she is his all. In a perfect world he would have all the time and fun in the world building a relationship with her but of course slow and easy isn't in the cards. There's plenty of action and yup a few bad guys and not all of it is his fault. His secrets seem to overlap with hers as does the action and chaos coupled with or incited by jealousy and lies. Getting through alive is one thing surviving the lies and secrets between them is another.

This author gives us plenty of reasons to make it through to the end of the read including bringing back some old friends. It's good suspense with some steamy time going on with plenty of bruises for Jeremiah along the way.

FROM THIS MOMENT ON, WE’RE A TEAM

The second story in the Arresting Onyx series was another page-turning tale with plenty of twists and turns. The story is an emotional roller coaster ride of the good, the bad, and the ugly. There is an excellent cast of characters, plenty of secrets, angst, anger, and new beginnings. No good deed goes unpunished, but maybe there is a level of redemption.

Patrol Officer Jeremiah “Jim” Borden, brother to Mia, has his arm is in a cast, and he is placed on administrative leave. One of the locations that he would meet with his parolees was at a greasy spoon diner. It is at that diner that he meets Calista Barlow. What a shock when she shows up at his door with a casserole.

Calista Barlow is a single mother working at a run-down greasy spoon diner. She needs a place that will work with the school hours for her daughter. She doesn’t like the owner but has made some friends at work—real friends that are there for her.

The plot will have Calista making the first move with Jeremiah. She will start with a casserole and even ask him out. When it comes to her daughter, Lacey, she is protective of her. It has been some time since she has been in a relationship, and she has the hots for Jeremiah and makes the first move. While he has thought about her, with his work line, he worries about the danger—but maybe it’s time to live life to the fullest.

“Stop worrying about the ‘worst-case scenario.’ Live your life, son. You only get one.”

These two have flirted with one another for a year, but wow, they sizzle off the pages when they actually get together. Jim doesn’t think he is good enough for her, but she believes he is. While they are both strong people, they each battle their own insecurities. For a change, they have someone in their corner who is willing to fight for them and the future.

Cali: “I feel so lost.”
Jim: “I’ve felt that way for a while too. Let’s be lost together. Maybe we can find each other. Move-in with me. Just for a while.”

“Though he wanted more than anything to share his life and his roof with Calista, the reality of loving her came at a price. The Riegers.”

The story is full of secrets, the past, life and death issues, trouble from a stalker, an ex-boyfriend, and problems moving forward. The past and present will collide, and secrets will be revealed. Shocking news that must be kept secret will all play a role in this tale. Wealth, drugs, criminal activity are all part of this tale of danger and suspense.

The chemistry between Jeremiah and Calista is electric and sizzles off the pages when they get together. The passionate scenes between them are erotic and explicit. While this story does not end on a cliff-hanger, it isn’t the end of the Onyx series.

I look forward to seeing what happens next.

Jeremiah “Jim” Borden, is a gruff, no nonsense parole officer with a crush on hot waitress and single parent, Callista Barlow.

From the opening chapter it’s impossible not to cheer these two on to get together. They’ve been crushing on each other for a while but neither are willing to take the next step at first. Callista is wary following previous toxic relationships, and she naturally wants to protect her daughter. Not to mention she’s got problems of her own in the form of a creepy stalker.

When Jim’s injured, Callista decides to take the first step. But Jim gets embroiled in a gangland investigation and is put on suspension. Can their budding relationship survive amidst the threats to Jim’s career and both their lives?

The characters are each strong and determined, and it’s clear from the start that they are perfect for each other. Callista faces the trials of the single parent, providing for, and protecting their child, alone. She’s not some damsel in need of rescue, she’s dealt with some hard trials in her life and refuses to let them beat her. I could not help but get behind her and cheer her on as she faced her fears and took a chance on Jim, who’s fiercely protective, yet not arrogant or domineering.

The writer’s style flows so well and allows the reader to get inside the character’s heads, experiencing the action as they do, and there’s lots of it to keep the pages turning. There’s also plenty of heat and the sex is nice and steamy. It’s really nice to see a strong hero and heroine who get together and accept that people are never perfect, that relationships need work, but are worth it in the end.

This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. I’m mentioned in the acknowledgements because I beta read this book, but don’t roll your eyes! This is a well-written story with some great characters, plus a nice dose of action and spicy scenes in the mix. Don’t take my word for it. If you like romantic suspense then you should really give this author a go.

I hadn't read the first book in Amber Daulton's Arresting Onyx series, but this second novel, "Arresting Jeremiah" is a standalone, and there is a brief recap within the text that makes reading the previous one largely unnecessary to fall into this story.

Firstly, I would like to say that I enjoyed the author's writing style, which was clean yet sophisticated and free of grammatical errors. The story itself was interesting and had a plot involving familial scandal and drug lords, and I was impressed by the amount of detail and research that must have gone into writing it. The characters themselves were relatable. As a single mother myself, I emphasized with Callista, although I have to say I've never attracted the sheer number of perverts, stalkers, and crazy exes that she does lol.

I liked Jim, as I enjoy gruff, over-protective men, but there was a part of me that thought it might be interesting had Callista ended up with their drug lord-turned ally, Bristol. (I sorta have a thing for bad boys turning good, but I digress). At any rate, I enjoyed the story as-is. There was a nice balance of plot, action, sexy times, and character development to keep a reader coming back. I would recommend this for readers of romance who love some plot to go with their romance and sexy times!

According to Wikipedia, Six degrees of separation is the idea that all people on average are six, or fewer, social connections away from each other. Keep this interesting factoid in mind when you begin Arresting Jeremiah, the second book in Amber Daulton's Arresting Onyx series.🌎 Daulton's weaving skills are next level❣

Mia's brother Jeremiah (Mason's parole officer in Arresting Mason) has been obsessing over the tall, blonde, curvy waitress at a dive diner where he just so happens to meet a few of his parolees for lunch. Calista Barlow secretly wishes he'd ask her out already (it's been almost a year of shy smiles and innocent flirting)! Ahhhh, doesn't this sound just like the sweetest little love story in the making? Ummmm, perhaps if one ignores psycho exes, parole violators, drug lords, wiretappings, kidnappings, black eyes, and stalkers - but if you can tune out parts of the exhilarating, heart-pounding storyline, then yeah, it is quite a romantic tale.

Arresting Jeremiah captivated me from the start with the nail-biting continuous action. Jeremiah (Jim) and Calista are likeable characters with real world problems and undeniable chemistry. Life is never easy. Calista is haunted by a prank caller and return of her daughter’s loser father. Jeremiah’s has troubles at his parole office and must keep his own secrets. Each must work through their personal struggles, but they discover communication and trust tear down their walls to solve their troubles together and enjoy steamy romance along the way.
What I liked most about the novel was the intriguing plot. I read Arresting Mason when it was released and loved that book, but this one pulls you in even more, building your curiosity to find members of the Onyx crime organization. I like how Amber Daulton weaves in Jeremiah’s sister Mia and her boyfriend Mason from the previous book. I’m excited to read more in this series and learn the head of Onyx’s identity!

Another great book in this romantic action filled series. I was so excited that this story was about Jim. We met him in book one as a parole officer and over protective brother. He was one of my favorite characters so I loved really getting to know him in this story. And his chemistry with single mom waitress Calista. When I say they had chemistry I mean it was coming off the pages! And this isn't just some hot romance. There is danger and so much action. I am not going to give away the details because, in true Amber Daulton fashion, there are surprises all through out. I will say fans of romance and action need to read this book. Heck this series. I can't wait to see what this author gives us next!

The second book in the series starts off soon after the first one ended. Jim is dealing with the injuries sustained and trying to find the courage to ask Calista out. Lucky for him, Calista asks him first. Jim and Calista were perfect together. The author included the realistic elements of a relationship, with the disagreements and the protectiveness. I liked how Lacey was included, she wasn't just mentioned and forgotten about, but had actual characteristics and was a real kid.
The story started off a little slow for me, but it warmed up soon enough. It is filled with twists and turns and lots of build up to the climax. I liked how the author ended things.
This is the second book in the series and I recommend reading book one before this one, otherwise everything will be confusing.

I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Once I finished Arresting Mason, I immediately picked up Arresting Jeremiah. Amber Daulton knows how to write a great steamy, suspenseful romance. This book is also a page turning, at the edge of your seat, great read! I enjoyed the unpredictability of the story, I liked the relationship between Jeremiah and Callista. The ups and downs, everything. I highly recommend the Arresting Onyx series to anyone that like romance and suspense.

You're in for an exciting ride. If you like suspense, romance, and sexy beyond your wildest dreams, this story is for you. You'll turn pages to find one surprise after another in this romance of a perfectly matched couple. I especially liked Callista's not very shy approach to getting what she wants.

I loved the first book in this series, Arresting Mason, and I was not disappointed with Arresting Jeremiah. The author’s skill at crafting authentic dialogue is commendable. The story checks all the point of a great tale—steamy love scenes, lots of action, realistic bad guys, and a fulfilling love story. Once I read the first page, I couldn’t put the book down. I was disappointed when the story ended. Well done, Ms. Daulton

This was an absolute page turner! Whether it's the action or the steam that gets your heart racing, you won't want to put this book down. Jim isn't perfect, but he's the perfect fit for Calista. I loved Calista's attitude and her refusal to back down in the face of danger. I'm pretty sure my kindle almost caught fire, things were so passionate when they finally got together. I absolutely recommend this if you like some thrills and suspense with passionate romance in your books!

Arresting Jeremiah by Amber Daulton is a fast-paced, action-packed romantic suspense novel. This novel brings the heat in all the best ways from the gun battles to the hot romance. I was on the edge of my seat as the bad guys multiplied with every chapter. He’s hunted. She’s hunted. The noose around them gets tighter and tighter until…I won’t ruin it. Despite being a sequel and reading the first book after reading Arresting Jeremiah (which I was given an advanced review copy to leave an honest review), I was able to not only follow along but get engrossed in the story. I wasn’t lacking for background and Daulton weaves in the backstory so cleverly, I didn’t feel the info-dumping that happens in second books. I loved how she started the story without the boy-meets-girl cliché so the reader could jump into the action.

Our heroine is Calista is a single mother and waitress at a greasy spoon. She and Jeremiah have been flirting for a year. What I love about this book is Calista’s daughter Lacey is more than a plot device. Lacey is a three-dimensional character and an active voice in Calista’s new relationship. Calista’s enemies come from her childhood, living just outside the rich and famous of Aspen, Colorado. Even though she has offers of help from a powerful family, she is determined to find her own way. She is strong in every scene and consistently shows her courage. If there is a fight scene, she jumps in to defend her man. If there is an expense outside of her budget, she makes adjustments to solve her problems. Want an independent heroine? Look no further.

But is the hero swoon-worthy? Jeremiah is a parole officer who we came to love in Arresting Mason. Our buff hero has a broken arm throughout the novel but that doesn’t stop him from working, fighting, and ah-hem...showing affection to Calista. Jeremiah’s healing time after each fight scene is masterfully done with completely accurate aches, pains, and groans. The best part is the bad guys do not wait for him to be back to 100%. It adds to the drama that Jeremiah cannot save the day because he is still smarting from the last time he was the hero. The number of problems increases exponentially as his relationship gets more serious leading him to ask: who is the target – Caiista or himself? Street smart and experienced, Jeremiah brings the pieces together in a realistic investigation.

Overall, this book brought me back to some of my favorite TV shows like The Shield. Jeremiah is a gray character that you want to win. There are so many plot twists that Daulton wastes no pages and keep the reader on the edge of their seat. This book is hot with heart and I can’t wait until the third installment comes out.

High Octane Romance and Suspense

If you’re looking for fun read with a pair of protagonists who are in really hot water—both romantically and plot wise—I have a great suggestion for you. Amber Daulton’s new release, Arresting Jeremiah, the second entry in her Arresting Onyx series, is saucy romantic suspense novel about two people with enough baggage to fill an attic. Jeremiah is a down-on-his-luck parole officer who, despite his considerable rehabilitation among his felons, is in trouble with his higher ups. He’s even been suspended. But he has greater problems, like trying to find out who in the department is selling info to the gangs and besides, he’s having to keep a deadly secret. Calista, the other half of this pair, has a life that’s not much better. Besides working at a dead end job at some grimy diner for a vindictive manager, she’s trying to deal with menacing calls from some stalker and has to worry about her psychotic ex-boyfriend returning. And Calista has to protect her daughter Amber, the bright spot in her life and one of the best touches of the narrative. These two find each other—at the diner, of course—and, after flirting too long, they finally act on their shared desires. Because of their past mistakes and bruised personalities, they have quite a time learning to trust each, but in the end realize they need the other’s help to make it through.
The romance and sex is intense, beautiful and loving and the suspense is almost as hot. Between their shared problems, they have to confront gang members, stop a kidnapping, fight the psychotic boyfriend, even having to dodge bullets. The climax brings a surprising, but satisfying resolution to at least most of their problems and the denouement chapter was right on. The story is set in Denver, Colorado, a city with its own beauty, grandeur and culture, and I would have liked to get more of the feeling of this great setting, but that’s me.
If you’re searching for a read of high octane romantic suspense—with a delightful emphasis on the romance—you should check out Arresting Jeremiah by Amber Daulton. You’ll not likely be disappointed.

This high-octane thriller provides a real roller-coaster ride and I couldn't wait to come back and find out what happened next anytime I stepped away. The story is expertly executed and impeccably edited. Amber Daulton knows how to grab a reader's attention and keep them hooked. I was compelled by the Onyx crime syndicate. The characters are never sure who they could trust because the danger is coming at them from all sides and even the people who are supposed to be on their side have ties to the seedy underworld. The crime drama was my favorite aspect of the book. I love immersive, intricate mysteries, and gritty detective stories.

The erotic aspects of the book were well-constructed, but not entirely to my tastes. The male characters are macho and overbearing. Jeremiah is a good person but very controlling. Calista's ex-boyfriend is a brutal sadist. Although there are no explicit sexual assaults depicted, his sexualized abuse of Calista could be traumatic for those with a history of sexual assault to read.

I dislike diet talk and female characters obsessively ruminating on their perceived physical flaws, which Calista does a fair bit. While women tend to believe that we are supposed to talk ad nauseum about how horrible our fat is and how many calories we are ingesting, I don't enjoy reading about it. As someone who tried to hate myself thin for 33 years before realizing that there were more important things in life, and who will struggle with my abusive life partner ED (stands for Eating Disorder) to my dying day, I find that all too many romance novels include these sorts of scenes, and they leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend Arresting Jeremiah to readers who enjoy a gritty, in-your-face, roller-coaster ride with some steamy erotic moments thrown in. I was sorry when the story was done and would gladly read more of the Arresting Onyx series.

Having loved the novel, Arresting Mason, I was thrilled to learn that there was a 2nd story. In book 2 of the Arresting Onyx series, Jeremiah (Jim) Borden, the parole officer from the 1st story gets the focus. Jim investigates Capularia, a part of the powerful crime syndicate known as Onyx.

Jim now has to contend with Bristol Rieger, one hell of a villain, while also trying to come to grips with what happened to his sister Mia, and her boyfriend, Mason Harding in book 1. When his dream girl, Calista Barlow, pursues him, Jim also has to balance his investigation with his feelings for her. Even though Jim is desperate to be with her, he doesn’t want to endanger Calista’s life or the life of her daughter, Lacey.

One of the great things about the story though is that Calista is a strong female character who knows what she wants. She works at a diner, is a single mom, and still has the confidence and courage to pursue Jim despite the danger of his job. Jim wants to protect Calista but she wants him too, and she will not be denied. She's also connected to Rieger, so this amps up the danger for both of them. Through all of the intrigue, the electricity between Jim and Cali becomes impossible to ignore and the story culminates in an exciting conclusion.

I don’t typically read romance novels but this, combined with book 1, is turning out to be one amazing series and I hope to read more. For romantic suspense fans, this story has everything you could want. Miss Daulton writes complex characters and masterfully balances them with a suspenseful plot. Arresting Jeremiah includes everything: drama, violence, murder, betrayal and some very hot sex scenes. Highly recommended for romantic suspense fans and anyone who wants to go on a sexy adventure. Though it’s best to read Arresting Mason first, this follow-up stands on its own and is a fast-paced read that you’ll be able to pick up even if you haven’t read that first book.

I think the main reason it's 4* instead of 5* is me being a picky reader. I have a very specific preference for voice and this book didn't quite hit the sweet spot. There were a couple of other things that fell just a little short of 5* for me.

Criminals. There was only one scene that it happened in, but the way the lower rank criminals were talking didn't ring true to me. I'm mostly familiar with the slang used in New York and Pennsylvania, so it might be different.

Another part that didn't connect was how quickly Jim got into the father role. He can be great with Lacey and genuinely care about her, but I think he'd need a little more time to fully embrace his inner dad. As far as I can tell from the book, there's only one occurrence when he interacted with Lacey for any length of time before he started dating Calista. With Calista he had what, a year? of talking, giving him time to slowly develop feelings for her. He didn't have the same with her daughter.

Now, for the things that worked well for me. Side characters were three dimensional. By the time I got toward the end of the book, I was thinking "What if Calista ended up with Bristol?" and "I want to see Bristol's story." His character was so intriguing.

Red herrings worked for me as well. I fell for at least one of them. There's so much going on that it's easy to assume something is related to an entirely different person, but it all makes sense in the end and fits into each character's motivations.

Which brings me to the final point, it doesn't drag on. The length of the book is the way it is because that's how much story is in it. No page after page of description, no unnecessary backstory that doesn't lead to anything. That's how I like it.

Calista Barlow’s life isn’t easy. A single mom, she’s working as a waitress in a dead-end diner, even though her true dream is to become a pastry chef. She has the talent, just not the opportunities. To top it off, she’s been getting obscene phone calls, and her daughter’s father is a violent criminal who likes to turn up unexpectedly, and knock Calista around.

For months, she’s been getting hot and bothered by one of her patrons at the diner, Parole Officer Jeremiah Borden. He wants her too, but neither of them has made a move, till now. What should be a positive for Calista boomerangs into more trouble, because Jeremiah’s involved in an ongoing and dangerous gangland investigation. While they share a bed, they also share each other’s trouble. And in this case, trouble shared is trouble doubled!

This was a quick-moving and exciting read that really kept me guessing. You never know which way the plot is going to twist on this one, or what’s going to crop up next. The sex is pretty hot, and I honestly couldn’t identify the “bad guys”, or tell how it would all work out—which is what I want in a Romantic Suspense. The characters are easy to like, probably because they’re not perfect. Jeremiah’s macho temper, for instance, had me gritting my teeth a few times. Even though this is the second book in the Arresting Onyx series, it stands alone, so it’s easy to pick up on the threads from the first book, even if you haven’t read it. If you love Romantic Suspense with a flash of heat, this one’s for you.

So I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my thoughts and opinions on the above book.

Arresting Jeremiah is the 2nd book in the Arresting Onyx series but it can be read as a stand alone and I am testament to that. I have not read the first book and I was perfectly up to date with what was happening. Even though – but the end I was quite keen to give the first book a go 😉

4 Reasons why this book received it’s 4 stars:

It starts off with a bang. I absolutely love it when a book kicks off with a great oomph. And from the word go this one was just ongoing the whole way.
Can you say SMOKING HOT. Because that is what the chemistry between Jim and Calista was like. Oh my hat – the sparks were flying and the heat was just rolling off the pages. It makes a woman’s heart happy to see some great characters get some fun action.
Speaking about action. Wow. We have a very intriguing investigation that is possibly putting our two MC’s lives into danger, we have an ex out for vengeance who is pretty much hunting our FMC.
A really fun story line. With really well written characters. Jim is a bit of an odd ball but he is so adorably besotted with Calista that you can’t help but fall for him and their story.
So why not 5 stars?

I had just a few issues getting into Calista as a character. Nothing specific – just didn’t quite bond with her.

That said. I would so read this again. And recommend it. And then probs read it one more time just for good measure.

I received a copy in exhcange for an honest review

Arresting Jeremiah by Amber Daulton is a romantic suspense novel. It’s the second book of the Arresting Onyx series and it’s about a parole officer Jeremiah Borden and a waitress Calista Barlow.

Jeremiah and Calista were two people with way too much baggage. He was a parole officer, who even though was good at his job, got in trouble with his superiors and was suspended for a few weeks. Of course, that didn’t stop him from searching who was leaking information
to the local gangs. That in its turn led him to more serious troubles. Calista was a single mother who worked as a waitress at a run-down cafe. She had her own problems with a crazy ex and a stalker. They met at the cafe and fall in love. When they became a couple their issues united and their only solution was to fight together.

It has a captivating plot with a lot of anguish and action. The romance is fast-paced, tamed with a lot of saucy moments. The story is divided 50-50 between the romantic part and the suspense. Almost in every chapter, they were co-existing. There are many twists and surprises that left me astonished. The characters were great, especially Calista she was so kind, loving, strong and she had a no-bullshit attitude. There are a few triggering scenes with violence and abuse so be careful before reading this.

I haven’t read the first book but I had no problem with following the story here. I enjoyed it a lot, the author’s writing style reminded me a lot of the old cop tv series. It was so much fun to read! I will rate it with 4.5 stars.

I was given an arc for an honest review. Here is the second book “Arresting Jeremiah” Jeremiah is a parole officer and we met him a little from the first book. Here he gets injured at the opening of the book. While not working or not supposed to be he still goes into the grease spoon dinner. There he sees his favorite waitress Calista. The description of her and of the dinner gives you a good backdrop for the story and the beginning of the issues these two people have.
When she shows up at his home with a casserole, he is first at guard almost to the point of sending her away just by his actions. He does let her in and slowly you get a look into both of these people. For me, the story is really about the two of them and her daughter. Yes, I know it picks up from the last book when you get into it and you do get to see Masson and Jeremiah’s sister, but really it is the trustor lack of that each has in people that keep you going wondering when they are going to trust each other and like always the guy screws it up with his own issues and over protectiveness that is not warranted.
I liked the story and the characters, for the most had a good flow and I was able to read it in one sitting, as I wrote in the beginning, I received an ARC from the author for an honest review I this helps all who want to read this good story. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

When threats escalate, will they succumb—or fight that cannot be denied?
About the Book: Parole Officer Jim Borden who is obsessed with a gangland investigation that threatens his career and maybe even his life, never expects Calista Barlow, the sassy blonde waitress he’s craved for months, to ring his doorbell. She slips into his heart—and his bed—but this only complicates things for a man who does not share his feelings with ease.
Calista has her hands filled with a daughter to protect and a stalker who won’t give up. After her violent ex-boyfriend reappears in her life, she finds solace in Jim’s arms. Jim may have to forego his need for answers to protect the ready-made family he adores, but how will he and Calista escape an unseen enemy that is always one step ahead of them?
Our Review: Multiple characters and complex sub-plots make this a slow read. However, fans of contemporary suspense which showcase members of the various law enforcement professions and flavored with steamy sex, should enjoy this one.

Based on a scale of 1-5, Arresting Jeremiah merits a 3.5.

Arresting Jeremiah by Amber Daulton
Book 2
4 stars
I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Mafia mystery romance
Having not read book 1, I was at a slight disadvantage. Although, by the first chapter, I was drawn into the story by the main character, Jeremiah’s explosive first scene. With the promise of a love story and some spicy moments, life couldn’t be better!
Well written, with engaging characters, it’s well worth the read.
The only reason I never gave it 5 stars was because I would have liked more spice towards the latter part of the book, and I found the plot a little predictable.

Outline of the Story
Jeremiah is a driven parole officer, committed to doing anything he can to rehabilitate the ex-cons in his care. But this doesn’t always go to plan, hence the bruises.
Calista works at his local diner, and for a year they have been flirting with each other. But she’s fed up with waiting and takes matters into her own hands.
As their relationship progresses, it emerges that both Calista’s past and Jeremiah’s present might hold deadly repercussions.

I've read a few of the Arresting Onyx books and Arresting Jeremiah has the strongest story and characters for me. Calista and Jim (The parole officer) from the first book, and Mia's brother, are both well-rounded. Jim is a grumpy person with a temper, but he's also very moral and caring. Calista is a single mother who's experienced upsets in love and depends only upon herself.

The romance is believable, because even though it starts in this book, we know that the characters have liked each other for a while and have flirted. and Calista is actually the reason Jim used the diner to meet his parolees. So, rather than being an insta-romance, there is something more than just lust to their romance.

As always, the sex scenes are well-written and passionate. Amber Daulton has a way with dialogue too, and the characters speak naturally. I also really enjoyed the thriller aspects of this book, unlike the previous book, the coincidences were actually believable, as were character reactions, especially Pesci and his hounding of Jim. And, as always, it's great to see returning characters.

This book is a wild ride. The two main characters come across as three-dimensional and believable. They really jump off the page. I felt drawn into their world and invested in their struggles, hopes, and dreams. The supporting cast is also lively. The villains are super evil and reprehensible but are allowed to have their own complex motivations. The writing is strong and immediate with plenty of sensory detail. Quick transitions keep the plot moving steadily ahead, weaving multiple accessory plot threads together into a whole that hangs together and never fails to entertain. I enjoyed the blending of genres: thriller and mystery with romance at its core. I was rooting for Jeremiah and Calista and Calista's daughter Lacey. It's an action packed and unpredictable adventure that will keep you turning the pages but still manages to take time for small observations and quiet moments. Overall, this book is a great read and highly recommended.
