Dubrovnik: Go Before Cruising Returns

November 11, 2020

The streets of Old Town Dubrovnik are empty, and while it’s sad, it’s also amazing for travelers. The service is five stars, the al fresco dining is plenty, and there’s room to walk, or even dance through the streets.

It’s A Beautiful Opportunity

The streets of Old Town Dubrovnik are empty, and while it’s sad, it’s also amazing. The service is five stars, the al fresco dining is plenty, and there’s room to walk, or even dance through the streets. During a typical summer, five cruise ships would be passing through Dubrovnik and police are needed to help move the shoulder-to-shoulder traffic along in the old city. As a travel agent, I recommend getting the heck out of dodge once your Mediterranean cruise ports, but as a traveller in the wake of Covid, I say stay, sit, and sip.

Some of the Best Beaches in the Mediterranean

Not only are the streets of Dubrovnik empty, but the beaches are as well. Banje beach club, listed in the top 10 Mediterranean beaches, boasts cabanas, cozy beach chairs, umbrellas, tableside service, and crystal clear waters. Sit, sip Moet, and watch as the mega yachts pass by, or drink the crisp Croatian pils Ožujsko pint by pint and make friends with those around you. Beach-side by day and beach-club at night you can stay twenty-four hours if you’re brave.

Restaurants to Yourself

What’s more, the best restaurants that you would usually wait hours for you can now just walk into. There’s plenty of patio availability and servers are quick and attentive. Fishermen are still out and at it, so there’s plenty of fresh sardines, calamari, and mussels to go around. There’s a hidden bar among the cliffs that boasts beautiful views but limited seating, called Buža Bar, and without the usual crowds, I highly recommend taking advantage of their cold beer and cliffside sea diving.

Let’s Go

Croatia is truly a little version of Italy, boasting beautiful vistas, clear waters, and delicious food, but with Eastern European prices. Take advantage of the empty streets and restaurants, walk along the old city walls or swim in the warm Adriatic. Take a tour to Pag and eat fresh cheese, or sit, stay, and sip at the beautiful Banje Beach Club. Whatever you decide, we can make it happen. Let’s craft your Croatia getaway.
