Why We’re Proud to Make Inc. Magazine’s Best Workplaces List for 2023

Building a thriving workplace culture is a lot like tending to a garden. In order for it to grow, you need to give it continuous care and attention, nurturing what’s helping it blossom and fixing what’s getting in its way. Creating a culture people want to be a part of is a core component of our company strategy, and that’s why we’re proud to announce that we’ve been named one of Inc. Magazine’s Best Workplaces for 2023!

Bitizens (aka our teammates) participated in a survey conducted by Inc.’s partner, Quantum Workplace, by answering questions about everything from management effectiveness and employee growth to benefits and perks. And because the Best Workplaces list is curated based on feedback and responses from our team, it makes our inclusion that much more meaningful.

We’re taking a minute to shed light onto some of what makes our workplace garden grow and what we do to help our teams to flourish here at Bitly. Let’s dig in!

Making connections as a remote-first company

Here at Bitly, we pride ourselves on enabling businesses and brands of all shapes and sizes to build deeper connections with their audiences, whether online or offline. But all of that wouldn’t be possible without our incredible team. As a company, we do our best to support and empower each and every team member, wherever they are.

As a remote-first team, our Bitizens are located all around the world, and as social creatures, we know that having some in-person time is an added bonus when building strong, connected teams. With our Hub & Spoke model, each Bitizen is aligned to a regional office, making it easy to bring folks together for on-site events and fun activities throughout the year.

Prioritizing the well-being of our Bitizens

When it comes to hunkering down and getting the work done, Bitizens are offered a variety of stipends to help set themselves up for success. From work-from-home reimbursements and learning and development budgets to cell phone and home WiFi stipends, we’ve got you covered. We love to hear that our team is continuing to push themselves to expand their skills at Bitly—here’s what one Bitizen said as part of Inc.’s survey:

“I have been given opportunities to grow and learn, while taking on responsibility within my realm of interests to help my team. I see how I am valued at this company and am excited about the work I get to do.”

And when you need to take a break from the busy work-week, Bitly fully supports you with generous paid time off so you can recharge your batteries, whether that means spending time with family and friends or taking time off to support your mental health. And speaking of getting some rest, we also support all of our Bitizens by offering a “Recharge Week” twice a year so everyone can fully unplug and immerse themselves in their passions and hobbies.

While we’re always keeping our Bitizens in mind when building out our wellness-focused initiatives, we know how important it is to extend that care to our teammate’s families, too. That’s why we offer comprehensive health benefits for all employees and their families, including mental health days and supportive parental leave policies.

Building a more inclusive company culture

Creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and included is essential to building an amazing culture here at Bitly. We know our success is directly linked to our team and the unique experiences we all bring to the table, so we work hard to make connections through a culture of inclusion, allyship, accessibility, and learning. Our differences make us better and everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive.

We have a number of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that bring together members and allies from different communities to foster a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. Learn more out our employee-led groups for yourself:

Bitly Allyship ERG: Allyship focuses on providing a safe space for all who wish to act as an ally to any marginalized community through education and continued conversation.

Bitly Cares ERG: Bitly Cares is committed to positive and sustainable social impact through charity and community outreach.

Bitly Disability ERG: This group provides support and education to members of the disabled community that interact with the Bitly product or organization, internally and externally.

Bitly Mosaic ERG: Mosaic focuses on conversations about ethnicity and race, fostering honest and transparent dialogue and igniting change within Bitly and our broader communities.

Bitly Pride ERG: Bitly Pride works to create visibility, recognition, and action for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) community, and its impact on Bitly’s culture.

Bitly Women ERG: Bitly Women centers on building awareness and education surrounding the history of women’s struggles, gender equity, and driving change both within Bitly and externally in our communities.

Whether we’re coming together for an ERG meeting, a virtual lunch, speaker session, or volunteer opportunity, our culture and the communities we’ve built within it play a huge role in what makes us so proud to be here. Here’s what another Bitizen had to say:

“The culture that Bitly has fostered is great: people are kind, respectful, and willing to help. Bitly also values DEI and makes efforts to push forward in that space. Team members and managers care about your wellbeing and support you in your career growth.”
