How One Digital Media Strategist Uses Bitly To Track Her Content

This week, we sat down to chat with Technically Media’s Client Success Manager, Alisha Miranda, about how she’s been using Bitly for the past six years.

Alisha uses Bitly to track insights in her work at Technically Media but also has a lot of experience using Bitly to grow her personal blog, #Alishainthebiz, and in her freelance work, where she helps businesses develop their marketing and revenue opportunities.

What do you do?

I’m a digital media strategist focused on sales development and event programming for technology companies. I have a lot of side hustles to keep me inspired and challenged.

#RadGirlsinTech is an experiment I’m growing with a fellow Philadelphian woman to make the industry more inclusive and diverse. We host small meetups and provide networking and professional development opportunities. At the end of the day, my hope is that it makes women feel awesome and that their careers are meaningful.

What does customer experience mean to you? How has it changed over the past few years and where do you see it going?

As Client Success Manager at Technically Media, my job is to keep customers happy. That means the experience from pre-sale to post-sale needs to be seamless and stress-free.

Our data proves that our customers are avid Technical.ly readers, so the more content we produce, the higher our readership grows. The higher our readership, the more sponsor interest we receive. The more sponsors we book, the bigger and more impactful the events we produce. The more impact and value we deliver, the higher our client retention is.

At the end of the day, that experience is what keeps our business growing. I consider myself a huge part of those business goals and make a personal effort to build relationships with as many customers as possible.

If you had said to me I’d be in a client-facing role a few years ago, I would have laughed. But the truth is my role in sales and marketing has allowed me to bridge the gap between customer needs and product solutions. Everyone has an impact on customer experience, especially at our company and I definitely see those touch points increasing.

How do you use Bitly & what’s your favorite/most-used feature?

I can’t stand long links so I shorten all my links with Bitly. I’ve got Bitly hooked up on my Chrome extension, Twitter apps, and Buffer.

At Technically Media, we’re nerds about data and engagement and we love seeing real-time performance data available through our Bitly dashboard. We especially focus on digging into what time readers are clicking and sharing content.

Right now, we’re promoting our Philly Super Meetup event. I can see in my dashboard that it’s getting clicks, so I will continue to share that Bitly link externally to boost RSVPs.

I also love creating custom Bitly links for important pieces of content I want to track, especially for my personal writing.

Tell us more about how you use Bitly for your personal blog.

I’m personally invested in the content I write for my own blog so there are specific articles I track engagement. For example, right now I’m heads down on a #WhyILovePhilly blog series so I’m obsessed with knowing when the article is being shared and how often I should be releasing new content. I just published a new travel guide on Chestnut HIll, PA, and to make it easy for readers to know exactly what to expect before clicking through, I used a custom Bitly link “http://bit.ly/VisitChestnutHill”. This piece is getting traffic so I know to continue promoting that heavily until I publish the next Philly travel piece.

I could use Google Analytics, but frankly, it’s too overwhelming. Bitly makes it easy for me to see that data in real time.

Any Bitly tips that you’ve found helpful and would like to share with the community?

I’d like to maximize tagging capabilities to better organize my links, especially for content campaigns.

I’m always looking for news ways to make the most out of the platform though! In fact, I’d turn the question around and poll other Bitly users for ways they think I can make the most out of Bitly.

Your bio says, “When not working on media campaigns, I write food and travel stories that inspire young people to travel the world.” What are some of your all-time favorite cities?

I’m fortunate to leave the country once a year and now travel for work to some really great cities. My favorite city always ends up being the most recent one I visited. I’m returning to a few of my favorite cities this year which is exciting: L.A. and Barcelona. But my favorite city right now is the one I live in and that’s Philadelphia.
